Max's Sea Grill

We ate at Max’s as part of a New Years Eve package with the Radisson Blu Hotel (formerly Royal York), of which it is part. A restricted New Year’s Eve menu was on offer, which should make life easier for the kitchen. But our starters (risotto & consommé) came up almost cold. On complaining they were taken away, then two more arrived just as cold. As complaining was spoiling our evening, we gritted our teeth and ate the cold ones, including an uncooked ravioli in my consommé. Next a sorbet, served in the bottom of a wine glass but with nothing to extract it. Then the main courses, yes you’ve guessed, nearly as cold as the sorbets. After finding the restaurant manager, they finally managed to provide some hot food. And the quality of the food was very poor, no flavour or imagination, the dessert was just embarrassing, overall one of our worst ever dining experiences.

We were surprised to hear that this was their second New Year’s Eve function, as the restaurant gave the impression it was opened yesterday. We heard later that the problems with keeping food warm are long standing, so you wonder why this has not been addressed. I would not go back there if you paid me.
