Al Duomo review by S Hall

My boyfriend and I walked upon this restaurant while in Brighton over the bank holiday weekend and decided to stop for a meal. We ordered the mixed starter for 2, expecting a moderate portion, it was absolutely huge, totally over the top for 2, and the ingredients were not of best quality, the olives were out of a jar (or tin) not pitted and not marinated, and the thoughtless presentation meant that all the ingredients were slopped together, iceberg lettuce covered in watery tomato sauce is not my idea of how lettuce should be. After eating a bout a quarter of the starter (one eighth each) out pasta main courses arrived pretty mediocre, tomato sauce was nice enough but the meatballs were very bland, no seasoning or flavour to them, just tasted like plain minced beef, maybe I chose the wrong dish, I wanted a chicken pasta dish but there were none on the menu. We ordered some drinks half way through out meal, they never materialised, so the service wasn't great either. The bill came with service included, it was then that the waiter remembered our drinks and apologised, he didn't knock the service charge off the bill though. On our way out another customer was complaining about her lasagne, being frozen in the middle, the manager was unsuccessfully trying to convince her that they make their food fresh, does he think we're all stupid! Overall summary is that this restaurant is overpriced, serves bad quality food, and offers bad service, avoid at all costs!
