Woodies Longboard Diner review by S Phipp
I have eaten at the Diner many times since it opened and so now with young children thought it would be a great place to take them. I've always liked the novelty of the place and the menu is okay for this type of food, burgers and shakes.
Unfortunately all that was good about it is now marred by incredibly poor, slow service and a couldn't care less attitude from the managing staff when the place is busy (every weekend and school holiday).
Knowing how busy it gets on a Sunday I turned up with my 2 yr old at 11.40 for the 12 o'clock lunch menu. I queued as expected for 20 mins (note if you have children the back of the diner is off limits). We were seated and ordered at 12.00. After 20 mins I asked if we could have our drinks. I was told they'd lost our order and that it would be a 20 minute wait, I explained I had already waited 20 mins because they had lost my order, but they didn't seem to care. After another 20mins I asked the manager what was happening with our food, I then saw him ask one of the waitresses to bring us menus!! Great attentive listening skills eh?!!
The food finally landed on our table at 1pm. I would have walked long before that but my daughter would have been non too happy as it was supposed to be a special treat.
By the time it turned up she was so tired and ready for her afternoon nap she didn't eat it. She is not known to leave food and normally has a huge appetite. A helpful waitress gave us her ice cream to take home.
I complained to the manager that she was too tired to eat her food, but he didn't give a damn. I was happy to pay for mine but not my daughters. I just wanted to get her home and to bed, I couldn't deal with a tired toddler and trying to complain. So I phoned and complained when I got home and was told one of the Directors would deal with it. I have heard nothing since.
I shall not be returning, even though the diner is very close to where we live.
Next time I'll take my daughter to Yo sushi or one of Brighton's great tapas bars, where they really are child friendly and have quick, friendly service.
