Went for a meal last night with two friends and we had a wonderful night. The service is attentive and very friendly. Loved the dining room - very cosy for a cold April night. We have eaten several times at the Norfolk Square restaurant and find the layout quite claustrophobic, so it made a nice change to have room to move. Yes the portions are quite small but the food served is rich so you wouldn't want a huge plateful. Food was excellent - and all the little extras from the canapes at the start of the meal to the amazing chocolate truffles with coffees made the experience even more enjoyable. Its not cheap but if you want a special meal for a special occasion I would highly recommend it.

I have not been back since a disasterous meal in November last year. My sister's and a friends birthday was ruined by the food. I had eaten there 4 time before so I was expect good things I order the duck breast at £17.00 (which is a ridiculous price anyway) and was handed a plate with 5 tiny cubes of meat around the edge and a couple of small vegetable in the centre, I didnt know whether to laugh or cry in the end I sent it back. Two of the pasta started weren't cooked at all some how the just didn't cook them. The Gingerman franchise does do some good food it isn't exceptional just good, but the prices are crazy and in the coming year with the credit crunch and people having less and less month they are going to suffer.

I had a bit of a feeling of "Emperors new clothes" here... Service was good, Hotel etc. has started to look a little tired (sorry!), the food was nice but sneeze and you'd lose your dinner. It surely isn't necessary to give such mean portions - especially with the veg, really the food isn't so great that the restaurant should expect you to treat it with such reverence. Don't go if you like to eat when you are hungry... but if you're on a permanent diet it must be the place to go!

We live in Hertfordshire and have returned to this restaurant many times. We've always found the food and the whole experience to be superb. We seem to have the same waiter every time and he's always been spot on. The restaurant is trendy but the ambiance isn't stuffy at all. From my experiences I can't believe how anyone could complain about this place. Don't let these uptight people put you off, this is a great place to eat.

I love it here, having been to the Gingerman at Norfolk square many times it is refreshing to have a new vibe for the renowned food that the Gingerman offers.

I had the a la carte lunch menu which was very nicely presented, well cooked and boasted the trademark great sauces that the gingerman restaurants do so well. Superb value for money with 2 courses and wine costing me only £20!!

I will definately be back!

I am very surprised at the bad reviews listed and think that for some people good is just not good enough!!

I'm amazed at some of the bad comments about this place. It has always been great when I've been. I'm really sorry that Alex in particular had a poor experience, but I don't think it's indicative. I've been several times with my partner and with friends and nobody's had anything but good things to say. When I and my partner had our civil partnership, we went to Gingerman at Drakes afterwards. We mentioned the reason we there in passing and the waiter brought some petit fours and the chef or someone had actually written 'congratulations' around the plate in chocolate. There are lots of little touches like that and the staff have always been great - a mix of good service that isn't pompous or over-zealous. I vastly prefer this restaurant to the original in Norfolk Place; the food is equally good there, but the space is not as good in terms of ambience. Do try the place: the food is excellent, the service good and the prices are not way over the top.

Arrival at the gingerman at drakes in impressive, the hotel itself is very classy and the service was unfaultable. It was to my delight to see roast squab pigeon on the menu and this main course did not dissapoint. Served with melt in the mouth buttery mash and a beautiful port sauce... This was by far the best main I have had served to me for quite a while. I Followed this with the mango and strawberry millefeuille with mango mousse, even writing this is making my mouth water - it was so good I almost ordered another!!

All in all this was an evening that was memorable for the exquisite food.

Thank you Gingerman.

Does the Restaurant manager have to smell of strong cologne?????? Is it a fashion statement? or maybe to hide the smell of cigerettes? It compleatly tainted our dining experience, could not taste anything from the food to the wine......

Please do something about this......

Alex's review just about sums up this place: over-rated food, bland wine list, and sloppy service. I would suggest that the proprietor sends his waiting staff to a London restuarant for a week to understand the job a little better. I was hoping for something a little special; it was simply medicore.
