I was intrigued to visit this restaurant after reading the many positive reviews on this site and its continuing appearance at the number 1 spot in the top ten lists.

However, I have to say that my experience makes me question the validity of this site and I suspect that many of these reviews are not in fact genuine and I would advise all to err caution when reading any reviews posted here. My experience of Pieros:

I booked a table on a Friday evening at 7.30 expecting the place to be busy, instead it was empty and we were the only diners until 9pm when a hen party arrived. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and the decor despite being very 70s felt cosy, but more like your Gran’s flat rather than an Italian Bistro.

The menu selection was wide but nothing inspiring, again typical 1970s dishes. We both ordered a starter; I went with the waitresses’ recommendation of squid and chose a sirloin steak. My girlfriend opted for a corn on the cob followed by a pasta dish.

I did enjoy my generous starter however my girlfriend’s corn was hot in one part but stone cold on another. I could not believe this but it was obvious that it had been microwaved. The waitress apologised and explained that perhaps the chef had not turned it properly under the grill. I was staggered as she took it away and could hear the beeps of the microwave in the empty restaurant before she returned the same semi-eaten corn warning that it might be too hot to eat immediately. Very disappointing and off-putting.

My steak was cooked to my requirements (black and blue) however the meat quality was poor, very fatty and the accompanying vegetables were certainly reheated with the roast potatoes having that distinctive flavour formed from reheating and/or defrosting.

However, the worst part of the meal was my girlfriend’s main course which had a distinctive unusual flavour which we could not immediately place. She could not eat it and when I tried it I agreed it was unusual. However, by this point I felt uncomfortable with the waitress standing nearby and the total silence in the restaurant so we asked for the bill and left as the hen party were seated.

Once again we had an enjoyable evening at Piero's. It is a restaurant that we always go for any special occasion and know that we will always be more than satisfied by the food, atmosphere and the way we are looked after. What I really like about the restaurant is that you are not rushed and the evening is yours to enjoy until you are finished. Piero and Jenny always make you feel at home and always make a special thing if it happens to be your birthday. We are italian and once again were not disappointed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food.

I am totally gob smacked by the reviews that this restaurant has received - it is atrocious, it has to be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in.

I ate here at the end of last year, we were a table of 8 and as such we were asked to pre-order. When we received the menu I was a little dubious but the reviews on this site were so good that we went with it.

The interior is tiny and looks like a bad 1970's pub/restaurant - most definitely not in a retro or charming way

For starters the party chose a mix of Pate, prawn cocktail and (bizarrly) lasagne. All of the starters were very mediocre, the pate had an odd taste and the prawns in the cocktail were miniscule. However as our other choice included Melon or New Zealand(!) mussels we thought we had picked the best of a bad lot.

It was the main courses that really shocked us, we had ordered 3 veal, 3 seabass, 1 steak and 1 chicken. 4 out of the 8 meals they bought out were incorrect, and we waited over 10 mins for the correct ones to come out leaving us eating in two shifts. All meals were served with Carrots, Cauliflower and cabbage, which didn't go with any of them; the only choice of potato was chips! I was astounded that a restaurant could serve these as accompaniments to fish, veal, chicken and steak.

All of the mains were awful with comments ranging from "it taste likes supermarket frozen food (said of the chicken) to it is so strongly over flavoured I can only taste lemon (said of the seabass).

I have no idea why they advertise as traditional Italian restaurant, I have eaten in many on my trips to Italy and not one served up the excuse for a meal that this restaurant did.

When I did voice complaints I was charmingly told other people like it so the problem must be mine.

Awful from start to finish - please do not waste your money or ruin your evening in this establishment

Brighton has loads of Italian Restaurants but many are chainy and boring and you can tell when they are not owned by Italians - the atmosphere is not quite right. Pieros is a traditional Italian bistro sytle restaurant (owned by an Italian!)with tasty home-cooked food, served in decent sized portions. They have a large menu with plenty of choice. Great for a party of friends or a romantic dinner for 2. Value for money and definitley worth a visit!

We have been going to Piero' s for many years.

The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere, the welcome is absolutely fantastic by Jenny and her help. Food is superb and very well served.

Piero's is absolutely value for money.

Each time we go to Brighton, Piero's will be our favourite restaurant!

We were in Brighton at the end of October, and we were enthusistic with Piero's restaurant.

The place is cosy, the service is pront and very accurate, the kindness of the owners is fantastic. However, what is really striking for us,beig Italians,is the quality of the food and the exquisit taste in presentig it ,so difficult to find even in Italy.,

Definitely Piero's wil be our favorite place when in Brighton.

I've been a customer of Piero's since moving to Brighton in summer 2000.

Lovely family run restaurant, pleasant and cosy atmosphere and excellent food.

I have made many friends over the years by visiting Pieros, there are many regular customers and you usually need to book.

I can recommend the Pasta Siciliana which is layers of Aubergines in cheese and tomto sauce, layered with pasta and baked in the oven (word for word, just as Jenny tells it)!

The banoffee is as good as the original recipe, if not a tad better! All sweets are home made and there is a good selection to choose from!

You MUST give this restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed!
