on saturday 2nd july my wife and i looked at about 7 different italians but decided upon this one as it had a proper menu not the usual pizza, pasta . We where warmly welcomed service quick, friendly and effecient. the food came quickly and was georgous especially the calamari luciniana. At £50 for drinks two courses each and coffee you can not get better food at a better price anywhere in brighton.

will definately return.

We went to zafferellis on a Saturday night, the weekend after valentines this year. The restaurant was very busy and tables very close together, just after we were seated the waiter showed two middle aged ladies to the next table, they were obviously the worse for drink. The two ladies rapidly began to behave in a very loud way, everyone was treated to their life stories and opinions. the staff obviously realised they were going to be trouble so they were served quickly, but by then it was too late. I was becoming fed up with having to listen to a conversation where every other word was a swearword. One of them tried to go to the ladies (having helped herself to my bag and wrap), she was very wobbly. When to bill came the one who was paying couldn't even see to punch her number into the creditcard machine, she became very loud and when pressed by the staff for payment stood up and launched herself in to a screaming abusive rant. She was eventually physically removed. This was not a very romantic/enjoyable meal for us as I was sitting about 8" away the whole time. the waiter then asked what we had been drinking, i thought we were going to get a free drink, but no he had just forgotten to add it to our bill! The food was mediocre and the staff shouldn't have let them in but the boss was so desperate to squeeze the last pounds out of the evening thsat he didn't give a thought to other customers. Because of this evening i will never go there again and I have told all my friend about this so won't either!

I first went into Zaffereli's (New Road Brighton) when VoucherCloud displayed a 25% off voucher. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have gone in, but as the restaurant was empty we went for it.

We had the meal and bottle of wine, which wasn't bad to be fair, but when we presented the voucher the manager came over and started a full-on row with us! They refused outright to give us the discount. After 5 minutes of shouting we relented and paid the bill in full. To be honest with out knocking 25% of the price the food isn't really worth it. The manager, a young blond woman in her 20's, really did go out of her way to make everyone in the restaurant feel uncomfortable. And if you are reading this, manager lady, chain smoking in front of your restaurant is not a good advert for the food

AVOID THIS ONE IF POSSIBLE!

I too am astonished at the amount of bad reviews for this restaraunt, perhap since it is under new management or something but when i visited on sunday with my girlfriend we were amazed at how good it was. We had bruschetta for starters (keeping it simple) which was delicious, it wasn't dry and was full of flavour, then had the calazone vegeteriana and the tagliatelli for main. Both were fantastic and not too pricey!

I have to say though, the main thing that drew us towards this place was the mood lighting, its quite dark and relaxing which is exactly what you want when your having a meal on sunday night, in my opinion!

The service was very friendly and the food came out at a very reasonable time! Both me and my girlfriend will definately be returning!

We had two nights in Brighton , so a lot of time to look around for the evening meal on the first night. Zafferelli's provided the right romantic atmosphere with the family touch. We found the restaurant friendly and all the staff accomodating,. The food was excellant , the garlic prawns as a main course were to die for, my partner's calves liver portion was so large we almost asked for a doggy bag!(he couldn't resist eating it all) We enjoyed our experiance so much we returned for the second night. No let down at all!!. The amount of mussells for a starter I could have eaten as a main course and my partner's shoulder of lamb would have fed a family of four!!! This is ther first time I have ever felt the need to leave a review for a restaurant. TRY IT!!

Obviously one diner's experience of a restaurant can be very different from the next, but I am surprised at the 100% negative review of Zafferelis I just read.

I have been bringing out of town guests to Zafferellis for about five years now and have always had a good meal at a fair price. One of the things I particularly like is that it is a family-run restaurant, not one in a chain, & I've always had very good service and a friendly manner from the Manager and the staff. On one ocassion I took a football mad friend there during the 2006 World Cup and my friend asked the Manager if he knew the score of that night's game; the Manager sent his son down the road to a TV shop to find out! How's that for service?!

I have tried many Italian restaurants in Brighton but Zafferellis remains my fave and a far nicer dining experience overall than one better [ublicised but over-rated local alternative.

We had a big conflict with the waiter. From the beginning he was very furious and stupid with us.

We wait for 5 minutes and then we left the restaurant because the service can't be worst.

I never would come back

Very bad bad bad restaurant

Me and my friend decided to get some lunch and walked past Zafferelli's and was lured by the £3 meal option so dined there....BAD CHOICE!!!

Firstly, when i asked for a table for 2, the waitress looked at me in a rude way.

Secondly, It took ages for us to get our food, people arrived after us and got their meal before us. Bare in mind, our meals were in the set menu option and were not difficult to make.

Thirdly, We asked to have our garlic bread with our meal but it came about 25 minutes before we got our main and was more or less toast with olive oil and parsley on it.

Fourthly, when our food finally arrived, they brought my friend the wrong pizza (she had ordered ham but got margarita) and when we complained they took it back into the kitchen and just shoved a small amount of ham on top of the same pizza. The base was very doughy and was something we could have easily made outselves.

and FINALLY..... my cabonara was soooo creamy - too much so. It left a horrible taste in my mouth. I couldn't finish my meal so left the rest and the waitress took my plate away before my friend had finished her meal which makes for awkward dining.

When we complained about this in a very nice manner because of the service charge added to the bill that we definitely did not want to pay, the staff didnt even apologise once and just said we'll take the charge off then.

I am NEVER going there again and i advise you not to either if you want good italian food.

Booked a table for seven people on a Saturday night at Pinocchio's (where I have eaten often) and was greeted with a queue coming out the door and no table reservation for my party of seven. Walked a few paces to Zafferelli's (where I have eaten once before) and the manager said he would have a table ready in 10-15 minutes. We went to the pub for quick one and returned to the restaurant where a table was ready as promised.

Service was quick and friendly and the food was great. I went for a mushroom and parmasan risotto, which was beautiful! Everyone else at the table had nothing but good comments about the meal. The bill came to around £140 for seven people, which included two (some three) courses and an alcoholic drink or two each. I thought it was bargain!
