I like to think I know my curry houses coming from London where I have enjoyed good and bad experiences in Balham, Tooting, Brigk Lane and Southhall
I found the Agra to be certainly up to the mark and without doubt the best in Brighton. Some reviewers moaning about the small portions, need to consider the taste of the ingredients used rather than the amount - I regularly enjoy a starter , main and rice and find this ample washed down with a large chilled bottle of Cobra - in fact eating here has failed to diminish my eighteen stone in weight - I see there is now a cocktail bar opening in the restaurant and intend to try this out soon, probably tonight, if they have room - Will let you know if it dissapoints

Had been to the agra about four years ago and found it fantastic, however our visit this week was disapointing. My husband enjoyed his chicken madras, but found the portion small, my own chicken dansak was so hot i found it hard to eat. Our extras also were extremely small portions, and we found the prices very high, i guess you are paying for the restaurants position in the centre of town, not the quality of its food.

I went here a few days ago on the strength of the reviews and was really disappointed. I ordered a vegetable peri-peri, it turned out to be a few potatoes and indistinct vegetables in lots of sauce, which was hot and sour with no other discernible flavours. I don't remember what my friend ordered, but she can't handle spicy food so she got something mild and coconutty with chicken. There was plenty of chicken, but she said the sauce tasted of nothing but coconut paste, she had to mix in some of my curry to add flavour.
Otherwise, it was Sunday evening and quiet. The service was fine. My port was served with ice, which was weird.

We have been to this restuarant several times whilst we stayed in Brighton and have enjoyed great food there, in fact we are going there again tomorrow night.
Once we just went to brighton for the curry.
The place is clean, fresh and modern. I would cartainly recommend to all who enjoy good food and a great environment.

Have been twice in the past month with friends and both times the food was excellent. My only complaint was how cold it was when we visited, both times in winter at 18.00 - hope it warms up later!

Chicken Dhansak was faultless. If you like REAL old school - by that I mean a Dansak with lotsa lentils and fairly sweet, but not sugary sweet, order this. You won't regret it, but don't forget to ask for extra green chilis chopped to add to your dish. Good Pilau Rice - but Mushrom Bhaji came in a tiny ramekin, but was nice, but a very small portion I'm afraid! Keema nan was too, sliced in half to make it look bigger, I guess. All the same, we would definately return. Been here twice in two years - a Saturday and a Friday - and it's been completely empty on both occasions. How come?

I went to Agra Brasserie on Ship Street in Brighton on Saturday night for the first time in a few years. Whilst it always used to be quite good food wise they have recently renovated the decor and the food.
I am currently scheming another visit to Brighton in the very foreseeable future; again the chilli scale is in operation on the menu. The Chicken Jalfrezi I had was made with the freshest and wonderfully succulent chicken cut in to goujons rather than the traditional “lumps of meat” approach. The portion size was excellent as was the mushroom rice, I am a big lad, lumpy to be precise and I was able to clear my plate along with a naan and not feel stuffed. The thinner members of the party also said the same.
The food was very light, not drowning in “in a soup of generic curry sauce”, the solid food to sauce ratio was perfect and presented nicely in new balti dish rather than a battered hubcap from a 1972 Ford Anglia. The modern square plates just added to the whole fresh feeling and showed that some thought has gone in to the refurb. The price of the meal was lower than expected too, excellent value for money.
Finally, the toilets were a joy to use, as clean and well maintained as the whole restaurant. Agra Brasserie has just set a new benchmark for me.

The best place to start is the service - absolutely immaculate; friendly without being too familiar, attentive without being needy. Similarly the decor is smart and understated, stamping it's brasserie credentials on the place.
We skipped starters and went staright to 3 main dishes - chicken peri peri, chicken caldon and a mixed tandooria grill. Two of the three were great, unfortunately the third contained raw chicken! Not even undercooked, but raw. As everythign else had been so good up until then we asked only that the dish featuring the raw chicken be removed from the bill. The counter offer was the cost of half the dish. We accepted but left with a very bad taste in our mouths. We shan't be returning, and would advise caution if ordering chicken, especially the tandoori chicken.

Really good and original food. The chef took the time to advise us and we were not disappointed. By eight thirty the restaurant was full, always a good sign. Price was reasonable. Once they add a dessert menu, this will be the best Indian in town.

Visited Agra on Saturday night with no booking, a table was available and came back to have one of the best Indian meals in a long time, the staff were very friendly and polite and attentive without being over bearing. Reasonable price too.
The staff member who dealt with us made the evening due to his manner and will definately be going back. Definatley worth a look
