Zamdani

having lived in brighton for 10 years i have been trying to find not only a great curry house but a consistant one. the zamdani hits both of the criteria. by far the most tasty and interesting curries in town. every time my wife and i have been - we have both had distinctive tasting meals and not just a generic curry with different meat or heat. it is now our first place to go in church street.

My dishes had half a centimeter of oil floating on top and the nan breads were burnt! This place is very over priced!

This is an unusual Indian restaurant with a very pleasant laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are pleasant friendly and professional. The food was excellent also. One thing though the owners need to change though is the way the curry dishes are served and presented. They are currently using open crockery bowls, much like cerial or soup dishes which are then placed on a rather antiquated warming tray on the table. This is basically a metal grid with night lites underneath it. The problem is of course that the food is never hot. There are more up to date warming devices they should look at which would also make life easier for them. They need to consider how much better it would be to serve their dishes in earthenware bowls with lids, or stainless steel ones, again with lids.
The portion of rice served with each dish is inadequate; this should be increased slightly. These improvements would cost very little and would make a very big difference. My only other criticism is that the popadoms that we were served were a bit limp and cold. If these problems were sorted out, this would be one of my favourate restaurants.

Not my usual takeaway but as we were visiting a friend in the area i went along with his recommendation. We ordered 3 main dishes with rice, 3 sides, 2 naan, a some poppadums. I went in to collect it and got charged £47.30!! I couldnt believe it. I was assured this was correct. If it wasnt for the fact time was getting on i would not of bothered. On leaving the restaurant i was chased down the road by a waiter who had told me they had forgotten to put some of our order in the bag! My friend only lives half a mile away from the restaurant so we got back very quick and ate straightaway. The food was nice, but cold. And only 2 onion bahjees?! That was the icing on the cake for me. I wont be ordering or eating here again. Its a shame, because the interior of the restaurant looked nice and some where i would of liked to try. However, it was 8.45 on a saturday night and there were only 2 tables in. Maybe people already know what to expect!
