I have unfortunately been to Barneys three times, and every time the service has been appalling. The waitresses are rushing around, but it seems that the management hasnt got a clue. The waitress said that we might have to wait for a long time for our drinks, 'Is that ok?' she asked. I saw at least two tables complain to the overweight manager who was just hanging around bemused. I left after my drink finally arrived, because after 40minutes my chicken salad hadnt appeared. I really hope you dont have the unfortunate opportunity of going to Barneys. The manager needs to be sacked in my opinion.

Brighton has too many good restaurants to ever necessitate eating here where all food is served with a guaranteed frown. Cold and dispassionate service could possibly be excused if the food was exceptional, or even just good. But after a lengthy wait, with the food arriving at different times, the wrong meals were delivered to our table. When contested, no apology was provided.
The food was of average quality and certainly did not match the expectation induced by the higher than average prices. Sunday roasts came with two large roast potatoes and a bizarre large clump of red cabbage which seemed somewhat misplaced in this meal. Similarly unexceptional, the falafel was a rather unassuming frozen veggie-burger in a pitta. Such freeze-packed dishes might be acceptable in cheaper chain pubs but certainly disappoint at these prices.
It was evident that the staff turnover here is high. One of the more amiable of our many waitresses who tended to us had to repeatedly apologise for not being able to answer questions about the menu. I suspect one of the reasons for this turnover is the deplorable management which was rendered visible through numerous altercations between managers and staff on the restaurant floor in full view of diners. One waitress, who clearly had difficulty with English, arrived with our food without vocalising what the dishes were and it was up to us to point and guess. This is unacceptable in a service-sector business where the customer-host interface should constitute one of the most pleasurable dimensions of dining out.
We asked for bill but waited for so long that had to go to till where after the manager had fiddled about with the till and shouted at one of his staff members, the bill was handed over and an unspoken 10% service charge added. I suspect this policy is in response to the lack of tips generated.
With dining out being an increasingly expensive luxury for many, it is not unfair to want a pleasant, amicable experience. Put simply please avoid eating at this restaurant at all costs.

WONDEFUL - If you enjoy a nostaligic trip down memory lane and want to recreate eating school dinners both in food quality and interior design. This place would be great if it were attached to a comprehensive.

The staff are the only thing that makes a visit worth while, and they are all leaving, due to poor management, apparently!! The food is nice enough, however it is so boring now as the menu has been the same forever. Sort it out!!
P.S who manages that place, no one seems to call the shots or act like they care.

What has happened to this place.....the services is terible and the food not always what you get or even worst cold and uneatable. I have been coming a while but lately it has gone down hill.....there is too much talking amoungest the staf for them to notice when a table needs attending.!!!!!
I asked for a drinks menu and was told that it had change and that tehre was only one to the whole building!!!!..there is one waiter who is very funny and is always making sure you have a good time there....more like him please!!!...i think his name is Shaun and he is one of brighton's unsung heros of service!
sort out the menu...it is too long and dated...!!!
will still go back as it is hit or miss....sundays are best to watch the world go by!

Visited here for brunch on the second morning of my weekend to Brighton with friends. The eggs benedict were great and apparently the big breakfast was also lovely (and bigger & with less garlic than the one at the Real Eating Co!) Service ok and prices reasonsble for the area.

i used to go into barneys every sunday for breakfast, mainly because it's round the corner and they serve good eggs benedict. it certainly wasn't for the price or the service. that was until the manager ran after me in the street one day, confronted me at the cashpoint and accused me of stealing my own work mobile from one of his customers - i hadn't even been in there on that day. didn't beleive the phone was mine until i pointed out the photo of myself, my boyfriend and my mate on the front. was too offended...will never go in there again. all the staff are up their own arse!!

A great sunday roast, bit slow on the service but friendly. The price reflects the standard of this place, not the best but certainly comfortable with tasty food.
