Barry at the Tureen

We were in the restaurant last Friday night and we had a wonderful time. We were a party of five with other tables in the restaurant and Barry managed to host, cook and serve and I still have not worked out how he did without making us wait at all. The food was gorgeous, the service excellent, and very reasonably priced. I highly recomend this restaurant and I will be going back as soon as I am back in Brighton.

I love this restaurant. Barry is an excellent host, the menu changes each month and there is normally something for everyone on it. The atmosphere is one of the main reasons we keep going back, Barry makes everyone feel welcome and make you feel more like a guest than a customer.
I especially love the cheese board which always contain well matured cheese, something that is getting harder and harder to find in restaurants now a day.

I have been hooked on this Restaurant for many years, and have always enjoyed the very friendly atmosphere, great food (I have several favourite dishes and I have never been disappointed by the quality of the food). All the ingredients are bought fresh daily and if any items are not up to Barrys high standards the dish is not on the menu that night. The Wine list is well composed and reasonably priced. There are little touches ie: hand made chocolates with the coffee etc that makes this restaurant stand out. All the dishes are cooked at the time of ordering ,and this produces not only very indevidual dishes, but also arrives piping hot.
Long may this little restaurant flourish.

Quite possibly the worst restaurant I have been to in Brighton....Inattentive service, food your grandmother would cook (boiled cabbage anyone?) with little to recommend. Very poor.

Excellent place to go in Brighton, it’s not your normal seaside restaurant. Barry offers great good, service and value; it’s a nice little place to go for dinner. I would be more than happy to recommend this restaurant.

This is quite an unusual set-up and all the better for it: Barry is host and chef, and does an excellent job of both, offering a short menu of well-executed dishes, an attractively priced wine list and a warm welcome. It seems from my experience not to be very well known, but clearly has a strong following of loyal regulars. I had a really enjoyable evening here can can recommend it warmly.

We went here for a small birthday party and had a great time. From the welcome as we arrived to the attentive, but not over the top, service we were all well treated. The food was not exotic, but was very good and the wine list is a stonking bargain.

What can I say? A really wonderful experience. Barry's is a small but very individual place with the fantastic Barry not only cooking but entertaining all the guests. We booked the upstairs room for my husbands birthday last year and it was a great success. Very classic old style British dishes with terrines, creamy brandy sauces, wonderful pies, the stuffed mushrooms went down very well - everything was delicious and really well cooked and presented. And Barry turned up trumps with a fabulous surprise Chocolate Mousse Cake for the birthday boy. A great place to feel at home whilst dining out and being entertained.
