Sometimes I prefer a notch up from the very enjoyable greasy cafe breakfast so based on a memory of a very good value and tasty evening meal here about a year before i decided to treat my mother to breakfast here at £7.95 a throw (yes £7.95!). Now the idea of homemade bake beans is great and I can't criticise it but I personally prefer heinz! Sausage was a good taste but rather small and squirted out a watery substance when I bit in to it.
But that was nothing compared to the egg. Very small. Bottom was blackened, and yoke was not runny. Did I miss a meeting? isn't the yoke meant to be runny? not that that would have made much difference as it would only have taken one dip of the toast and it would have been gone. bubble and squeak was good
overall not great. might have got away with it for a fiver but I've definitely had better greasy spoon breakfasts.
we complained about the egg at the end. We both agreed it was the worst egg we'd ever had. She apologised and offered to let the chef know but nothing was taken off the bill. it came to about 17.50 (incl.service) as my mum's tea wasn't included in the price!

Had quite simply the best breakfast in Brighton on Saturday morning here, even came with bubble and squeak & a non disappointing sausage which is rare. Its the other punters here that I could just watch all day.

We've been popping in to The Dorset for years, which says something but it wasn't until our last visit on a particularly dismal Saturday in Feb that I realised that it is actually a superbly honest place to hang out.
In the midst of chains and rip-offs, The Dorset offers somewhere informal to enjoy nice food, have a drink and watch the world go by. Yes the moules are legendary, but I have to say that the pasta dish we ordered for our 3 year old was the best I had tasted anywhere. Everything else was good too, although chips/french fries are certainly not a speciality!
If you are a tourist in Brighton, you will be doing yourself a favour to enjoy the more bohemian atmosphere of the North Laines on your walk from the seafront or chain shopping centre of Brighton, and you will be rewarded with finding The Dorset. Equally worthwhile if you are stuck at Brighton Railway Station and fancy somewhere cozy to hole up for an hour or so.
And on top of this, last time we were there, we spotted a rock legend and his family happily having lunch - you never know what you will discover here!

Prawns and plaice over cooked. Chips undercooked. Spicy sweet potatoes not spicy. Service pleasant but slow. A lot of places do this kind of food so much better.

Had an ace time sat outside the pub, watching the world go by, no traffic and the best moules mariniere I've had in ages. Thanks Guys. I even heard a rumour Mr cook had been seen inside recently!
