Dig in the Ribs Restaurant In Brighton

I went there on a Saturday night with a party of 16 - the services was awful, the waiters were rude. after waiting for over an hour and a half for the food it eventually arrived cold - After the first mouthful I found a hair in my chips. The waiter laughed at me when I asked what he was going to do about it - Eventually our whole group got up and left without paying after the manager refused to discuss the problem. There were a couple more groups in there at the same time who were also complaining - I believe the also walked out. This was the worst ever experience I have had with a restaurant.

This restaurant has been a family favourite for years, so it was with excitement that i took my boyfriend for his first visit. I have to say i was bitterly disappointed with what we found. We had already booked a table, but when we arrived we were told they had no record of that, although i could clearly see my name in the records book! We were then shown to a table and our order was taken after about 15 minutes. It seemed like this would then be our only point of contact with the staff for a while, as we waited in dismay for an hour without our starter appearing. We watched as other diners were served and left, and eventually cornered a rather nervous looking young guy. We told him of our plight (possibly a bit dramatic, but we WERE goddam hungry by this point!). He didn't really offer us any reasoning regarding the delay, and he didn't offer apologies either. Eventually, well after an hour, our main meals arrived, sans starters, and with no explaination as to the delay! My boyfriend, who can contort his face into all sorts of angry expressions, caught the eye of the manager (although what exactly he was managing is anybody's guess!). Sensing my boyfriends anger/dismay, he actually surprised us both by offering our meal (albeit without the starters) and drinks 'on the house'. We ate up pretty quickly, and left. The experience was a pretty awful one in all fairness, and our anger was only quelled by the fact we didn't have to pay. I have since been back, mostly out of interest to see if they had pulled their socks up, but it was the same story again. Shoddy service, bad food, and miserable staff. I would need a lot more than a free meal to go back!

I recently took my boyfriend to Dig in the Ribs for his birthday. I used to eat there a lot and it used to be really good!

However, we were very disappointed to find it over priced, devoid of atmosphere and my food was practically inedible. They then over charged us...for which I received no apology! I received no discount for the meal, which I hardly

touched and will not be going there again

We should have realised when we found the place to be practically empty at 8.30!!

I have been going to Dig in the Ribs since 1992 and always loved it. The food was not spectacular but was consistent, the staff were friendly, service good and the atmosphere was great. My daughter and her boyfriend live around the corner now, she went with us as she was growing up and now we often meet them for a meal there. None of us had been to the restaurant for a while. The minute we were seated I noticed a distinct lack of the usual atmosphere. There was no music and it was quite empty at 8:15pm. We must have been there for at least 15 minutes before our drink order was taken. We ordered the food at the same time and didn't get our drinks until our plate of nachos arrived. The tortilla chips were all broken little pieces and tasted a bit stale but as we were all starving we didn't complain. The main courses then arrived. Mine was a cajun chicken fillet. It tasted awful. When I looked more closely I could see that the bun was burned and completely black on the inside. While I was waiting to complain about this(it was impossible to attract the attention of the staff) I tried a bit of the chicken. The texture was awful, it tasted undercooked. The waiter eventually came over and didn't seem to understand my complaint. He got a woman from the kitchen and she took the plate away. She returned to tell me that the bun was burned but the chicken was cooked. I said that the texture and taste were awful, it was inedible, my daughter's boyfriend backed this up as he had tasted it, and she replied that maybe that's just the way it is! She asked if I wanted a replacement and I said that as it had taken so long and everybody else was well into their meals I wouldn't. At no point did I get an apology, just a bored, offhand disinterest. My husband's burger was burnt but he ate it. When the bill arrived I was somehow not surprised to find that they had charged for my meal. I asked the waitress to remove it from the bill which she did but apart from that I received no compensation. We found out later that there are new owners, it is a shame that they have destroyed this place and I won't be going back again.

Really awful place - The starters we ordered were promising, and I particularly enjoyed the chicken wings and barbeque sauce. Unfortunately that was the only thing that I enjoyed - My dissactisfaction comes mainly from the problems with my main course - When I ordered a salad that was listed as with guacamole, sour cream and cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms and olives, I was very much surprised to get a bowl full of lettuce, four olives, one mushroom, two slices of tomato and no cheese or sauces! After complaining I was told that the menu probably needs changing and that was what I was getting despite thinking I was ordering something much more substantial. A bowl of lettuce for £8! I will never go back - There were only three tables occupied and yet the staff were lazy and slow to attend to any of us in a hurry. Shocking, overpriced and bound to close eventually - I heard the other two tables complaining as I left...

Totally agree with all the reviews. Years ago this place was great. It had a rally good atmostphere, and good honest food at the right price.

I went there more recently and jst felt a bit sad to have to cross this one off my list and stop reccommending it.

I guess all things muct pass.

Food has gone really downhill. Not only was it not very nice, my friend and I both felt ill a few hours later. Since the change of owners, I'll be avoiding this place like the plague.

We went to Digs last night having visited many times over many years and were bitterly disappointed. Having moved to Bournemouth we don't get to go as often as we would like but looked forward to a tasty meal and a fun atmosphere. Oh dear. The evening started with a waiter that didn't know the menu, progressed through a drink being dropped on child to bland and unpleasant food. Suffice to say, it was not what we were expecting and we won't be wasting our time and fuel again.

I have always recommended Digs to many people but will now be warning people off.

I will send them a link to this site so that the new owners can see what a pig's ear they are making of it!!

After hearing all the bad reviews about this place recently I was a little worried when I went there with 15 of my mates for my Birthday. However it was not as bad as I had been led to believe. Admittedly the food took a while to come but when it did it was good and the service was friendly and efficient. I just hope that my experience is not a one off as it has always been one of my favourites.resturants.

Complete disappointment. Waited a century for service and was charged £12 for a tortilla wrap with some tasteless cheese and shrivelled vegetables inside. Also the cocktails were watery and overpriced. Another fabled Brighton institution in decline. Very sad.
