Visited Dig in the Ribs on the 20th July 2007 and it was the biggest Brighton disappointment!! Having been there in the past and always had fun, great service and reasonably priced food we could not believe how much this place has changed. The service was diabolical, the food was bland, tasteless and unappetising. The portions were smaller than they used to be and prices had been increased but did not reflect any increase in quality – in fact more expensive and poorer quality. There are so many great places to eat in Brighton – so save your money and pick any where but this place – it was truly AWFUL in every aspect.

My Son wished to celebrate his thirteenth birthday at dig in the ribs which was cool as me and my wife have been going there for 19 years and have many fond memories. It was always a good atmosphere and always busy and if you didnt book then you could be in for a long wait. When we arrived i booked up for 11 people and had to pay a deposit of 50 pounds a couple of days before, which i thought was odd as they never used to before. When ordering the drinks they had hardly any wine on the menu with which i replied back "then tell me what you have then".The childrens coke was not the real as it was overly sweet and syrupy. And when ordering a pint of lager on draught they said they only done bottles. When the food arrived it was a case of shock to see the amount of lettuce and olives chuked on the plates, and what happened to the creamy coleslaw. Now it was some other kind of mush and little of it.The worst part was that the traditional barbecue sauce that came with the famous ribs has now been substituted with a tomato-lumpy-cold-gluey stuff that had no flavour whatsoever. Why change years of ingredients for total rubbish and obviously cheap replacements. There is no way any of us are going back again under that new management. And in the two hours we was there we was the only people, and the restaurant had the cheek to take a deposit and tell me there was another party going on so we could,nt book 7 oclock and had to settle for 6-30....the cheek of it. I do believe this place wont last long and good ridance.

The first time I visited in late 2006 I must admit, I was impressed. I returned in June this year and couldn't believe how quickly a restaurant could go downhill ! Slow, inattentive service, cold, indedible food. No wonder my party of 12 were the only patrons at the time !

This restaurant has for me never managed to get anything right as far as I am concerned. I would rather go to the supermarket and buy a packet of do-it-yourself and stay at home, then go to dig in the ribs. At least that way you can guarantee to get some form of quality.

This was without doubt the most expensive and worst burrito I've ever eaten--and having lived in San Francisco for 14 years I've eaten many. And how hard is to make fresh salsa? Instead it was garnished with a dollup of something straight out of a jar. To add insult to injury the margarita tasted like Lemsip.

I took my work colleagues to Digs in November 2006. What a great experience, good food, efficient service, packed house, vibrant atmosphere and reasonably priced. By way of a team recognition event, I took them back there in July 2007. What a complete disaster ! Should have guessed something was amiss when at 20:00 there was only my party of ten seated. Food was cold, it arrived at the table over an extended period so some people were waiting whilst others had almost finished eating, staff were inattentive despite having no-one else to wait on and the "chef" spent most of his time sat poring over paperwork with who appeared to be the manager (discussing profit or lack of versus loss accounts I suggest) when he could have been cooking for us. Shame really as the place was excellent and I had intended taking my son there for his birthday ... not anymore.

I went for a 21st Birthday here a few weeks ago and thought the whole experience was an absolute disgrace. We ordered our food at 8, received our first course at 10.00 which was cold. Complained to the waitresses who were then rude and accused us of lying about the time we had ordered our food. When we finally received our main course at 11.30 again the food was cold, they had vital ingredients to dishes missing i. e Steak with Prawns with no prawns. The chicken salad we had ordered never arrived and at this point they were starting to close up, putting chairs up around us. When we complained again for the 5th time stating that we were not happy and were not prepared to pay for the food, the very rude obnoxious waitresses then snatched our food away from us and said that if we don’t pay then we don’t get to eat. After having all of our food taken away from us (which was probably for the best as I have had much better food from Mac Donald’s) the manager of this restaurant then went into hiding for an hour and refused to speak to us, the waitresses said that she was busy on the phone!! Anyhow after waiting around until about 12.30am to speak with the manager, she finally appeared however refused to give us back our £100 deposit, lied about how many drinks we had had and was extremely rude and aggressive. We therefore decided we were far too tired (and not to mention hungry) to wait around to get any of our money back or at least an apology and therefore went to an excellent kebab shop down the road!!!!!

My wife arranged a surprie 30th birthday meal for me on Friday 6th July. In the week before the meal one of our friends contacted her and told here about the reviews on this site. My wife made a point of contacting the manager of Dig in the Ribs and saying how worried she was that things might go wrong. She was asured that the manager would be present and would ensure that things went smoothly. (They didn't!)

Drinks orders were repeatedly messed up, with most drinks arriving 30 minutes after ordering, if they came at all. The food orders were something else. Out of 17 diners I think 2 got the specific dishes they ordered, with most dishes having extras missing, or completely differing from the menu description. The delivery of the main courses to all of us was also spread over about an hour which was brilliant!

Food was very poor with uncooked vegetables and oxtail soup substituting for BBQ sauce. Nothing was warm when served and the waiting staff had no idea what the dishes they were serving up were meant to be. I even had the pleasure of being told that the missing extra bacon on my Cajun chicken was there, when it clearly wasn't.

Like other reviewers here, we had been to the place before several years back and would have recommended it before, but I would avoid it like the plague in future.

Bearing in mind the list of complaints and the fact that at 8pm on a Friday night the place was about half full, I would imagine that the place will be shut down pretty soon. So if you want the full experience get there soon!

I was sad to read the reviews - I used to go the Dig in the Ribs regularly and we loved the food and service was great - it was first choice for birthdays and celegbrations in the 80's. My most recent visit was disppointing. We went on a day when it was not too busy - which was no excuse for food arriving at the table looking overcooked and dry, but stone cold. Portions used to be more generous for ribs & wings - now they look a bit shrivelly and unapetising. The owner always used to be about, checking his staff were okay and having a laugh at the bar (as he did with Pie in the Sky the sister restaurant in Kemp Town) - but now it seems to be about making money from large group bookings (hen nights etc) with below-average food and service. It all seems a bit mean and half-hearted now. Big shame.

Possibly the worst service I have ever received from a restaurant and that includes BK & McDonalds!

We had a party of 10. Had one course in 3 hours! Were charged for a course we ordered but never received, were charged for the £50 deposit that we'd already paid and they still expected us to pay a 12% service Charge.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs, it is the worst restaurant in Brighton & Hove
