Old Orleans

i've been eating here with my boyfriend now since we started going out 2 years ago, 9/10 we get what we order & the staff are always lovely & we are going there again this weekend for our son's 1st birthday with 30 other people so we would definitly recommend it.

Have eaten here three times in the past two months with friends and each time the burgers (double) were excellent, the staff were attentive and efficient and the prices are very reasonable. My fave place for burgers since Blind lemon closed.

I had heard good things about Old Orleans so decided to try it for myself, however I was not impressed. We were sat on the smallest table possible for four people so asked to move because there was no way it would be comfortable eating so cramped together, but we got the impression that this was a great inconvenience to the waitress. When the food finally arrived after a very long wait, it was poor - usually overdone (burnt nachos) or underdone (meat - worrying when not meant to be!), the only acceptable part was the pudding and that was simply ok.

The service was abysmal - a smile could not be found at all, they were very short staffed (but still had time for nice chats at their till), still no excuse for awful food. The time spent waiting for some service took the majority of our time there; it was never prompt or forthcoming.

I've been to Old Orleans in Brighton twice, the first time about a month ago, the service was good and the food was average, although there was a bit of over kill with soured cream throughout the three courses.

The second time, fri 9th Nov 07, however was a huge dissapointment, and frankly i was was embarrassed to have recommended it to the friends I was with.

On arriving, the FOUR of us were shown to a table that was fit only really for two, three at an absolute push. So after 10 minutes we asked to be moved to a bigger table. The service was appalling, we waited ages for waiters to even walk past let alone ask if we wanted to order. And a smile wouldn't go amiss.

The starter - nachos - which we had last time, was burnt. But we were so hungry from waiting by this time, that I have to admit we did wolf it down.

The main courses were vile, that really is the only way to decribe the food. Everyone's chips were cold, the meat (chicken) was leathery - seriously, leathery chicken??? And the green beans that two of us had were not only under cooked (and to be honest I'm not that fussy about veg usually) but they also smelled and tasted like dish water - after a couple I gave up and declared them inedible. And well the pudding was OK. I didn't leave a tip. I will never be going to Old Orleans again. Unless i go for a cocktail, they're quite nice.

Went here for my son's thirteenth birthday whilst down on the south coast enjoying a short break. Never again ... my wife ordered sirloin steak that tasted of fish ... and she does not 'do' fish. Apparently it was cooked on the same griddle as the seared salmon. No apologies or offer to clean the griddle and replace the meal. At best our meals were luke warm and bland. Still, I managed to colour in the table cloth with the supplied crayons, much to my son's amusement with some of the comments that accompanied my drawings.

The new dessert menu is not so great, the old dessert menu should be brought back!!! We loved the old desserts old orleans used to do!

Good place to eat if your feeling hungry and a good selection of food. Service is good with a nice personal touch. Great any time of day or night. But booking maybe a good idea in the evening to get the right table.

When i visited last it was quite busy, but the service didn't change at all. Just what we all like.

Would definately visit again with friends.
