Have to admit to being a meat eater. Some vegetarian friends came to visit and suggested we should go to a vegetarian restaurant, and good manners made my husband and I agree. We are so glad we did. We both had delicious meals. I had Savoury Parmesan & Sun-dried Tomato Beignet and he had Tandoori Haloumi Masala. Our friends were so pleased to see us enjoying our meals. The flavours were marvellous and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. We will return to this restaurant again. It shows that vegetarian food can be flavoursome and exciting.

Really impressed with this place, it was my first visit having lived in Brighton for 9 years! To be honest I was put off by the fact that it is vegetarian but the food is so original and interesting that I really wasn't bothered. I had the halloumi nicoise salad followed by stick toffee pudding. Both were massive and absolutely stunning. Polished off with a firecracker cocktail which was lethal but right up my street!

Would DEFINITELY return!!

The restaurant is lovely looking in a fabulous location. I was excited by the menu but unfortunately when the food arrived it was very bland. My partner ordered a dish with risotto balls and I had a smoked cheddar choux bun dish. If I close my eyes and tried both dishes they tasted the same.

The service was great and as I was driving that evening I was impressed by the non alcoholic cocktail.

Im afraid the food did not have the full flavour I look for as a vegetarian. I would not use this restaurant again.

This was one of my favourite restaurants. I have been eating there since the eighties but have not visited for some time since moving away from Brighton. What a massive disappointment. Instead of their fabulous range of tasty dishes with filling vegetables and salads I had a miniscule portion of burnt lasagne with "leaves". My co-guests fared no better with spicy rosti, costing £11.45, and consisting of a potato cake and humus. If you like oily butter nut squash and leaves and want to pay top dollar for cheap rubbish then eat at Food for Friends. Otherwise, go to the North Lanes.

We've been eating at food for friends as a family over the years and always regret the day when they closed the doors of the hugely successful and informal 'cantina' style restaurant and opted for the semi-pretentious image that you see today.

The food is by no means mind blowing and we’ve increasingly found that the price of the food is really not reflected within the quality. However we have always found the staff to be extremely helpful, the menu makes good use of local produce and suppliers to great effect and the food reflects a gallant attempt at providing some nice twists on vegetarian cuisine and some unexpected little surprises. The restaurant itself is spacious without being to vacuous and has a good atmosphere and the decor is crisp and clean.

A nice choice for the vegetarians and plenty on the menu to tempt those that may not have considered vegetarian food before.

Overall an excellent restaurant in a great location, grab a window table if you can.

i can't quite believe there are so many good reviews on here for the food at Food for Friends. I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was not impressed. They try too hard coming up with interesting dishes, which they were in concept, but the actual quality of the food and and cooking was nothing special. it's amazing how many restaurants forget the simplest rule when cooking...use quality ingredients and make them shine. irrelevant of how expensive or complex the dishes are.

I ate at Food for Friends for the first time in over 6 years last week and was delighted by the transformation. It's a very comfortable restaurant now, with good service and the food was absolutely delicious. I'm not a veggie normally, but the food was very tasty and I loved the huge mix of different textures and ingredients in each dish - it left me extremely satisfied and not craving meat at all (the non-veggie's biggest fear!). We particularly enjoyed the special local ingredients and some seasonal drinks, including the Gospel Green Champagne Cider - yum!

Myself and a group of friends ate in this restaurant last summer. We found the food fabulous but we were told we would only have two hours in which to eat our meal. There were more than ten of us and we found we needed more than two hours. At the price we were paying, I don't think it was unreasonable to expect to leave when we were ready. This meant there was no time to have extra coffees or liquers etc. I will not be going back unless they change this policy of expecting customers to leave when their two hours is up.

Food for Friends is the kind of place where you want to celebrate life. The interior feels fresh and tranquil and in my carnivorous opinion the food is incredible - loaded with delicate flavours and just oh-so-satisfying. It's always packed, which says a lot, and once I walked past and saw some people having their very pretty wedding reception there. The right place to go for a slow, boozy lunch, especially if you're in the mood for (stunningly prepared) veg dishes.
