i can't quite believe there are so many good reviews on here for the food at Food for Friends. I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was not impressed. They try too hard coming up with interesting dishes, which they were in concept, but the actual quality of the food and and cooking was nothing special. it's amazing how many restaurants forget the simplest rule when cooking...use quality ingredients and make them shine. irrelevant of how expensive or complex the dishes are.

I ate at Food for Friends for the first time in over 6 years last week and was delighted by the transformation. It's a very comfortable restaurant now, with good service and the food was absolutely delicious. I'm not a veggie normally, but the food was very tasty and I loved the huge mix of different textures and ingredients in each dish - it left me extremely satisfied and not craving meat at all (the non-veggie's biggest fear!). We particularly enjoyed the special local ingredients and some seasonal drinks, including the Gospel Green Champagne Cider - yum!

Myself and a group of friends ate in this restaurant last summer. We found the food fabulous but we were told we would only have two hours in which to eat our meal. There were more than ten of us and we found we needed more than two hours. At the price we were paying, I don't think it was unreasonable to expect to leave when we were ready. This meant there was no time to have extra coffees or liquers etc. I will not be going back unless they change this policy of expecting customers to leave when their two hours is up.

Food for Friends is the kind of place where you want to celebrate life. The interior feels fresh and tranquil and in my carnivorous opinion the food is incredible - loaded with delicate flavours and just oh-so-satisfying. It's always packed, which says a lot, and once I walked past and saw some people having their very pretty wedding reception there. The right place to go for a slow, boozy lunch, especially if you're in the mood for (stunningly prepared) veg dishes.

On our arrival, at 7.45pm, the time for which we booked our table, we were informed we could eat there, but had to leave by 9.00pm! On booking our meal, we were informed we'd have 'a good two hours' in which to eat, so we'd imagined we'd probably be there until 9.45pm, and had planned upon spending a lot of money at Food for Friends. Once we were seated, the waiter informed us we weren't allowed a starter as we didn't have time, and we'd not be allowed a dessert! So, we were forced to just have a main course and also ordered a side 'picking' dish, which included stale kashew nuts! When we asked for new nuts, what I'm convinced were the same nuts, were returned to us having been heated briefly (probably microwaved)! The food itself was, other than the stale nuts, acceptable, but nothing spectacular and arrived at 8.30pm, giving us half an hour in which to eat and leave! Our entire visit was nothing but rushed and we were made to feel unwelcome as though our custom was a nuisance to the restaurant's staff (despite there being several empty tables, and more than enough waiting staff to cover the few people in the restaurant)! Of course, a service charge was added to our bill, which I consider ridiculous, considering the fact that we actually recieved almost no sevice! I would absolutely not recommend Food for Friends and shall never be returning!

A group of 6 of us visited Food For Friends on a busy Saturday night as part of a hen night. The food was amazing and the service was excellent, in fact there was nothing to fault the place on - even the die-hard meat-eater was impressed. I would recommend this place to anyone and can't wait go back again myself!

There are so many restaurants in Brighton that all claim to be amazing, but Food for Friends genuinely is. Their meat free cooking has a global influence that makes the menu really varied and interesting. The restaurant is always really relaxed and friendly and you can't get a better spot for people watching. A definate must, even if you are a meat eater like me, be prepared to be suprised!

went to brighton and stumbled across food for friends , i have been vegetarian for 25 years and always struggle to find good quality veggie food. The menu left me with a very difficult choice.....what do i choose?. i eventually decided on the portebello mushrooms stuffed with feta, served with green beans and sweet potato wedges (with yummy creme fraiche). my husband who is not veggie chose the wild mushroom rosti.....(he loved it)...i can honestly say that this was the best meal i had ever eaten out. with reference to the service we found this to be excellent and as the food is all cooked fresh to order , didn't mind waiting the 20 minutes or so that our food took to arrive. i think anyone that appreciates 'good' food will realise that this is actually to be expexcted. the reviews tht slate this should consider what they are looking for!. if you want fast food ...go for a pizza.(boring) ....i would highly recomend this to anyone visiting brighton...and i am disapointed i live to far away to visit more often. so if you are in the area.... GO GO GO....it is yum .
