We bought some takeaways from Aumthong on a Friday night in August, and lets just say we will not be ordering from them despite living just 3 minutes away.

The food were way too greasy and overpriced (mean portion size). The amount of meat and seafood were pathetic comparing to other local Thai restaurants, the £7.50 Pad Thai was too small to feed a small eater.

There are also a shocking thick layer of clear oil floating on top of all the food we ordered inside the containers, I have never noticed this when dining in the restaurant. It's really a shame the flavours were great and the staff are very friendly. I don't think I will be visiting them when there are many other good Thai food in Brighton and Hove area.

this evening we were in this restaurant.. 3 of us.. two of us regulars and i just have been in this rest.long time.. unfortunately this was really an unfortunate evening for the managers and owners of this restaurant... we ordered one of the fish dishes.. the presentation was great but the fish either was really not fresh or over cooked... so we called out the waiter nd the waiter agreed the fish was not really done well.. and asked if we wished something else and my friends said thank you and offered the fish they well.. it was served and was an okay food.. the surprise came when the bill was presented to us... they actually charged us for the food which we told them not good and have not eaten... when we asked what is going on they said " you ate the food and then told us that it was not good" which was a totally untrue and there was big miscommunication between serving person and the manager..

we said we don't really mind paying for this but it is not a good and professional way of treating customers, especially accusing with implication that we have done this on purpose.. despite the waiter has agreed the food was not done well and offered us another option... the management was really treating their customer in definitely NOT what you would expect from any normal business operation.. we paid the whole bill and was really upset and our evening was definitely destroyed.. it was just a rip off..

definitely cannot suggest anyone this restaurant and its quality service.. please keep away...

This is the second time I've been to Aumthong and I was blown away both times by the quality of the food. We stuck to the Specials (actually the "Extra Specials") menu and had lamb and cuttlefish that were loaded with chilli, incredibly spicy and really delicious. Also soft-shelled crab in black pepper which was wonderful as well. The food here is packed with flavour, and even at 9pm on a Saturday service was good. Including starters and a bottle of wine, the bill was £80 for three. This is a great place.

This is a great restaurant. Consistently great food and reasonably priced. Prefer the Hove branch to the Brighton seafront. Just had dinner on Saturday and we had 3 starters, 2 curries, rice and Pad Thai with wine and came to £60. Food is fresh and tasty and service is usually fine, Occasionally a bit slow when very busy - but who's rushing?

Been eating here for 7 years and hopefully will continue for many more.
