I also have had very mixed experiences here. I've dined twice as a group in the function room on a set menu, and twice as a couple in the a la carte restaurant. The difference between the two was absolutely astonishing. The times we have been as a group the service has been really bad, with very rude moody waiters/resses. Service ok but fairly slow. Menu ok but not great. However the main complaint about both times I have dined as a group was the 'extras' they add on to the bill! BE VERY CAREFUL HERE! I have heard of loads of people having the same trouble. On the bill at the end were lots of things we hadn't had including an extra main course, drinks and expensive cigars!! When we queried it and said we hadn't had these items they didn't even argue and just took these items off the bill. This just shows that they are trying it on in the hope that large groups won't notice!
However, on the other hand, when I've dined in the main restaurant (both mid week) it has been absolutely faultless and they didn't add things on to our bill! Very nice food, v. good service although we told the somellier we didn't like sauvignon blanc and the wine he recommended tasted just like a sauvignon blanc! Maybe he misunderstood our english?!
So, don't go as a group and if you go to the a la carte go midweek as I've heard at the weekend it's not too good and they do a mediocre 'tourist' menu!
