Bland, bland, bland. Disappointing in so many ways, from the disinterested waiting staff to the tasteless food. How do you make a dull curry??
As someone else here has said, we're still searching for a decent curry house in Brighton & Hove.

FANTASTIC restaurant! Visit there on a regular basis and get take out every now and again too. The staff are friendly and attentive, remembering our favourite dishes etc. As for the food, well, it's excellent, prompt and delicious. I cannot sing enough praises for this wonderful place.

This restaurant serves up the kind of food you'd expect to find in your bog-standard UK curry joint, uninspired, bland and heavy on the grease. At the present time of writing I'm sorry to say I still can't recommend any really really outstanding curry restaurant in Brighton!

We visited the Ashoka last year after one of our group recommended it after a previous visit
Boy, did he get a slap afterwards. After starving ourselves all day to gorge like kings on our favourite cuisine (standard practice) and a hefty workout at the gym before hand (i like my curry, but i dont like to wear it after), we were ready to start tucking into each other by the time we reached the Ashoka.
We had the standard poppodums, which came with somewhat bland accompaniments. Feeling a tad let down, we ordered our usuals and waited. After waht seemed like a life time, our food arrived.....
...oh dear. How upset were we. The food wasnt of a bad standard, it was just bland. The strong flavour expected from curry wasnt there, there was something missing. We all ahd the same dishes, and all had the same problem. It wasnt just the curries either, the naans etc.. were all lacking it too. To this day i still cant figure out what its missing, but i know i wont venture there again, unless im not paying and have no other choice

I've become a regular customer after my friend introduced me to Ashoka's delivery service :-)
the food was impeccable, which was nicely complimented with the beer i had bought from ashoka aswell.
I got Ashoka's new menu which was given with one of my takeaways, so the next time i felt like a bit of a change and i tried the paragoan chicken (a new exclusive dish) and i must say was by far the best curry i have had for a long time. Really hot but very pleasing.

I moved to Hove in April and I'm struggling to find a decent local takeaway of any type, apart from fish and chips and Mexican.
A takeaway from Ashoka a few months ago was ultra bland and ultra expensive. We'd been told a few times by others to try again, but this time eat in. So, tonight...The starter was promising and my wife's main was good, but my prawn Ceylon was thin and lacking in flavour.
Then, when we questioned a couple of charges on the bill the waiter quickly did himself out of a tip with his negaive attitude. (One of the items we'd questioned was the amount of the service charge!)
Will not be going back. But is there a decent Indian restaurant anywhere in Hove?!?

To sum it up, great Indian restaurant.
I have been here about 7 times in the last year (coming from someone that doesn't eat out a great deal must say something!), and everytime the food is delicious although the waiting times can be... present shall we say.
I figure if you order your mains asap, there should be no issue though, and I would much rather wait for something good than leave thinking I'd been robbed. If I wanted a quick snack I'd get a Subway.
The prices are very good along with the portions. Staff are also very helpfull, and although some dishes that they suggest may not be to my liking (my fault for accepting really), they are always happy to suggest good complimentaries.
Recommended.
