I moved to Hove in April and I'm struggling to find a decent local takeaway of any type, apart from fish and chips and Mexican.

A takeaway from Ashoka a few months ago was ultra bland and ultra expensive. We'd been told a few times by others to try again, but this time eat in. So, tonight...The starter was promising and my wife's main was good, but my prawn Ceylon was thin and lacking in flavour.

Then, when we questioned a couple of charges on the bill the waiter quickly did himself out of a tip with his negaive attitude. (One of the items we'd questioned was the amount of the service charge!)

Will not be going back. But is there a decent Indian restaurant anywhere in Hove?!?

To sum it up, great Indian restaurant.

I have been here about 7 times in the last year (coming from someone that doesn't eat out a great deal must say something!), and everytime the food is delicious although the waiting times can be... present shall we say.

I figure if you order your mains asap, there should be no issue though, and I would much rather wait for something good than leave thinking I'd been robbed. If I wanted a quick snack I'd get a Subway.

The prices are very good along with the portions. Staff are also very helpfull, and although some dishes that they suggest may not be to my liking (my fault for accepting really), they are always happy to suggest good complimentaries.

Recommended.

A very average experience on Saturday. Service was quick an efficient, if not a little rushed and hard to understand as the restauarant was at best half occupied. The food was accomplished and well presented but seemed rather bland, with one dish especially thin. Not the leading curry house I remember.

Saturday 3rd March 2007.

Went to Ashoka for an office party. The service was terrible and the manager very agressive. The food was reasonable but lacked flair, we felt they tried everything to maximise the cost (ie serving fruit juice by the pint and then charging nearly £5.00 for it!) while being totally un interested in creating a good impression. Overall a poor evening and expensive at nearly £1000 for 28 people, many of whom didn't drink alcohol.

I've been to Ashoka a few times and the food is fantastic, the best Indian in the area. The staff are nice and the atmosphere is great. I would recommend the fish dishes they have, very nice.

I have eaten here a number of times and the food is always excellent and prompt. The menu is rather traditional but the odd chef special does offer some interesting alternatives. I would say though the service is at times patchy, sometimes its polite and efficient and other times rather surly, it really is pot luck. But certainly worth a visit if you are hove way.
