I live round the corner from LF and had been there twice, both times unimpressive. But being generous souls my girlfriend and I thought we'd give it one last try (plus everywhere else was booked). Never again!

We had to wait 45 minutes before our order was taken. A further 45 for food, then when the waiter brought our mains BEFORE our starters he acted like the French Basil Faulty in a lame attempt to cover it up. In the end the only thing that arrived on time was the coffee.

Don't go to this restaurant, ever!

The comment from Friday March 17th really made me giggle! I also couldn't 'give a fork' if this place shut down! It is rubbish!

why oh why didn't I check this site before I wasted £100 at this mediocre restaurant? Coming down from London for the weekend, we decided to treat ourselves - what a joke! Food was so bland, wine was over priced (a bottle I buy at Tesco for £4.49 was £24 - surely that is too high a mark up?) and air con was so powerful I was freezing after 10 minutes. Staff were really unattentive with no desire to strike up a conversation/rapport with you. Terrible. Spend £1 more and go to The Gingerman 1 street away - leagues above this place.

Being French myself, I thought I should try La Fourchette restaurant. I was so disappointed, not because of the food, although I found it too expensive for what it really is, but because of the poor quality of the service (and you pay for it!). The tables are so close together that you can't follow a conversation with your partner. The space is very limited. Never go there week-end time, it's mad!

La Fourchette; the French for Fork.

I wouldn't give a fork if this place shut down tomorrow.

You can't wait at the bar if your tables not ready. And when it is,they make you play musical chairs until you're on a table that suits them.

They try and fob you off 2003 bottle of wine instead of the 2001 bottle ordered. Not alerting you to this until the cork has been pulled. And then get snotty when asked for an alternative.

Then the waiter tries to tell you he knows more about wine than you ever will.

The food is average French bistro standard.

The sauces are over salty. The chef probably has leather taste buds.

The pudding plate was good. At last, a point!.

The attitute of the maitre 'd is attrocious.

If you've no charm and can't take stress in your stride, you're in the wrong job young man.

Restaurants like this used to rule the roost in Brighton. But now they'd better buck their ideas up, or the younger, fitter, talented upstarts will be their downfall.

Overall - nice food, but dreadfully overpriced.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was expecting white tablecloths, proper table settings, fresh flowers etc. However, the appearance was more of an upmarket cafe/bistro rather than one of Brighton's top restaurants.

We ordered a bottle of Chablis. Now call me a heathen, but I like my white wine cold so that a thin layer of moisture appears on the glass - this was decidedly warm. We asked for another bottle and were given excuses by the young waitress that they were all that temperature. The more senior waiter suddenly appeared with a properly chilled bottle. Whether they had cold bottles or had to make a trip to Peter Dominic's I will never know....

When asked, the waiter was unable to describe the sweets and had to go and seek advice.

Apart from these quibbles, the food was fine, although my wife's bream, arriving in silver foil, probably should have been served onto the plate and not left on the foil. The whole meal was, overall, far too expensive and the service was below par. I wouldn't go again, unless someone else was paying!
