Came here on a Sunday to sample Brunch and the jazz band. I used to work here and wondered if the place had changed much.

Boy, it really had.

We started our Brunch in the cocktail bar opposite the restaurant. I was here when it was revamped and at the time it was all terribly swish, new and shiney, but time and inconsiderate, dirty guests have taken it's toll on the place. When it was time for us to go to the restaurant we were greeted with a glass of buzz fizz and and shown to our table by (I assume) the restaurant manager.

The restaurant has changed quite markedly since I was here last. The wonder ful old dinning chairs covered in purple upholstery have been replaced by rather utilitarian furniture who's colour is not really in keeping with the over all colour scheme of the restaurant, but hey, progress and all that.

The biggest shock came with the redesign of the central buffet stand. It used to be this dirty great behemoth of a structure in red stone, an utterly wonderful thing that kept food warm by troughs of hot water running under the brass and cooper trays of food. Sadly, it has been replaced by a rather sad-looking U-shaped assortment of hot plates and carving stations looking liked it had been dragged out of the kitchen for the occasion. Wasn't pleased.

So, after the shock at the changes, I realised that actually I'd come here to eat and drink, not to have old and rather fond memories smashed to pieces.

After my first mouth full everything else was forgotten!!! it was wonderful and stayed about 3 hours just getting steadily more full and drunk. The staff were superb, and altough essentially a carvery, you felt that you were waited on hand and foot.

The jazz band were great and I recognised a few faces, still smiling and having a laugh after all these years.

A great way to spend an afternnon and after swaying back into the cocktail bar for a few more before being poured into a taxi home, the old place really didn't seem that bad. Rather good infact.

On this occasion, first impressions are as deceitful as a cheap watch, and despite the rose tinted specks and all, I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a charming and relaxed meal in rather grand (if rather changed) surroundings.

The Windsor Restaurant is a lovely restaurant set in a relaxing atmosphere. In our party of 12, everybody enjoyed their food immensely and was more than happy with the choices they made. The staff was courteous and made us feel very welcome and did their very best to accommodate us. This would be a great place for a quiet celebratory meal, intimate or otherwise. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Brighton.
