Wow,what a FANTASTIC meal this lunchtime,25th June,2011,accompanied by equally wonderful service etc.Crab and avocado terrine to start and an absoloutely melt in the mouth main course of lamb noisettes (cooked to perfection)with accompanying savoury panacotta, roasted pepper and spinach all of which just melted in my mouth.Followed by a scrummy chocolate heavenly brownie. The best meal I and my friend have had for years.Cant recommend this venue highly enough mmmm.....exquisite!!

Had the 2 course option from the evening menu.

To start, Fresh Mussels tossed in chipotles and cream of parsley sauce with crusty bread - all very nice.

Main, 8oz Rump Steak, served with vine ripened cherry tomatoes and a bucket of chips.

The tomatoes were very good. The chips were good too. Don't get excited by the 'bucket of', It is small, but ample. The rump steak? tough as old boots!

This was a shame as the service was good and a very nice restaurant with a good atmosphere.

My colleague had Sea bass Fillet, served on scented new potatoes, with wilted spinach, asparagus and homemade basil and red pepper vinaigrette - again, reported as being very good although the asparagus was just one, very small spear! A couple more wouldn't have gone amiss.

Will I return? Mmm, not sure.

We had high hopes but left disappointed. The wine was ok if a little pricey, but the food was poor. We ordered the 2 course deal but felt cheated. The salmon starter was tiny and the pate had nowhere near enough toast to spread it on. (How much does bread cost?!). The sea bass was tasty but the size of a small fish finger! Worst of all was the rump steak, mainly gristle. Presentation was pretty, such as fries in a little bucket...but poor quality frozen chips. We felt the chef was probably good but he seemed extremely restricted in terms of the ingredient's quality and portion size. I wish places wouldn't do these deals and then just cut corners. There was some live piano music which was a nice idea but the room has very harsh acoustics so it wasnt enjoyable....a few soft furnishings would help with that. Overall we wouldnt go back until the management have a rethink.

3 of us ate here on Saturday night. Even though the restaurant was busy, the service was still attentive and we were all made to feel very comfortable and our food requests were listened to. All 3 courses were excellent quality and the wine and other drinks we had were of equal quality.

Reasonably priced good quality food in a nice relaxed and vibrant environment with second to none service, expecially from Harry and Nick.

We will definitely be repeat visitors to this venue and would recommend anyone to give it a try.

What a welcome, what food, what friendly staff, what a restaurant!!! We had not booked a table, which we should have done as the retaurant was fully booked but we chanced to call in anyway and to our delight a table was found. A very comfortable table by the window to watch the night life in St James Street. We cannot praise this restaurant enough for its ambiance and very friendly staff and as if that was not enough the food was a special treat and well worth the slight wait as all the courses were prepared with passion with customer delight in mind.

We would certainly recommend The Townhouse to anyone visiting or staying in the Kemp Town area and we shall without a doubt be paying another visit the next time we are in Brighton. Well done The Townhouse and thankyou to your staff for making us feel so welcome.
