We were on the look out for a good Indian restaurant in Brighton and were recommended this by friends. Rasa is a South Indian restaurant, so the menu will be different to what you might get in a standard Indian but for me, this really makes it stand out from the norm.

The pre-meal snacks were tasty and more than sufficient as a starter - we'd been told the main courses were large so we skipped the starters. All 4 vegetarian curries sounded good and I opted for the Cheera Parippu Curry (which was a steal at £5) and my husband had the Masala Dosa. We also ordered rice, chickpeas and the Malabar Paratha - in fact once we saw the size of the Dosa we'd probably ordered too much food!

All the dishes were exceptionally tasty and washed down with a couple of large Cobras, the bill was under a very reasonable £40.

The staff were all very friendly and the overall service was very good.

Definitely my favourite Indian restaurant in Brighton.

Myself and a group of friends were having a few afternoon drinks in Brighton yesterday. After a while the munchies kicked in and a curry was called for. We decided to try Rasa for the first time as we were nearby and were intrigued by the menu which is not standard 'british' indian fare.

They were very welcoming and helpful with advice to guide us around the menu, a basket of poppadoms was ordered and they came with some of the tastiest I have tried and a fantastic selection of pickles.

The food was interesting, tasty and portions were plenty generous enough for 5 chaps with healthy appetites.

Throughout the staff were cheery and very pleasant, it was early evening so the restaurant was not full but it was busy enough to not feel uncomfortable.

With drinks the cost was £25 each, great value in an often overpriced area of town for eating out. Needless to say our experience was very different to those that have left their comments here and whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion I would just ask if you are looking for something a bit different you give this place a go.

I went here recently with a few friends as we thought we'd check it out despite it being the most vile shade of pink imaginable. We were greeted with a weird, artificial smell and the waiter practically forced us to buy 'poppadoms and pickles'. This was actually a bowl full of weird poppadom style things, some deep fried banana crisps and some things that looked a bit like squid tentacles but were gladly vegetarian.

Main course choices for vegetarians are limited. There are four dishes to choose from and only one of these appealed to me. There is also a very limited choice of side dishes. They did, however, have a really good bread on the menu that they'd already written down on our order before we actually agreed to buy it... but it was a friend's birthday, so hey.

The thing that was weird about all of this is that the atmosphere was totally dead, the waiters were pushy, it smelt a bit, the portions were the smallest I've ever seen in an Indian (I didn't even leave full despite eating bread, rice, curry, the aforementioned poppadom thing and half a side dish) and therefore the value was really bad... but all this said... the food was absolutely delicious. If I had loads of money and they did takeaways (maybe they do, I don't know, I'm stuck at the load of money hurdle so I can't be bothered to find out) I'd order from them at least once a week. But I'd probably have about triple the portions of everything on the menu. And I'm only a size 8.

interesting review... i was there with a group of girls recently and shared an almost identical experience

i would also like to add this: when going to order a nice cold beer to accompany my friday night curry...

lo and behold... they didn't even have a Kingfisher to offer me!!... what the curry is going on here i thought? how can you have a curry without a kingfisher to wash it down with?!!

back to the old curry house at the end of my road for me!

Was really looking forward to a curry night out with the girls – we decided to try Rasa (Little East Street, Brighton – bright pink building - you ain’t missing it!).

Well I have to say if you are looking for a bowl of curry soup that’s far too hot and seemingly flavoured with and only with curry powder? Add a little rank chicken and then accompany your curry with some waterlogged rice then Rasa is the place for you.

To add insult to injury it cost us £75 with an £8 service charge?

So, if you have come across this review and have read it - you have your warning.

I don’t write reviews but was so appalled I felt it necessary to warn the potential curry loving eaters of Brighton – STAY AWAY…

Ironically Rasa will also try and sell you some Indian curry cookbooks, all I could think was maybe the chef should be checking them out!
