The Tin Drum - Hove

Love Tin Drums - but I wouldn't put it in the family section. Unlike the one in Hove, they seem to have a policy of no children after .. I think it was 7pm. I booked a big table for a family celebration there, and was turned away at the door for turning up with my kids. Very disappointing.

i am disappointed to give the tin drum a negative review as i feel the place has so much potential. i was going in there a couple of times a week for coffee/sunday brunch only because of the convienient location but the service became so bad i am giving it a miss. the waiting staff are pleasant enough when they eventually come to the table to give you a menu (at least 20 mins) take an order (another 20 mins) and when coffee/food arrives (about 3/4 hour?) it is stone cold: add to this waiting for the bill and it becomes a sad joke. this has happened several times - i could understand if i was ordering during a lunch time rush but i am talking 3 or 4 pm whilst the staff are 'busy' chatting or polishing glasses. the establishment has such a great location for dining or having a relaxed drink on the terrace but the current staff and management really let the place down.

I am afraid I did not have the opportunity to same the nice looking menu at the Tin Drum in Hove since we were never given a chance to order!
I have spent much time in the Seven Dials Tin Drum but has since moved and went for a birthday meal at the Hove branch.
The waiter acknowledged us as we entered & we asked which part was the dining area, which was full, but located a table in the 'drinking' area and the waiter attended our table with menus & drinks requests. As we had just sat down we declined ordering drinks at this stage, requesting a minute to decide. Just to be ignored for the rest of our stay! The waiter had to friends coming in chatting , stroking his hair & being served wine near the bar whilst we were chewing on our menus, starving, eager to order. Finally we had to desert the Tin Drum, without any hope getting served! There was plenty of people in the Tin Drum but I did not see anyone eating so the waiter can't have been that busy. It's charming with a bar/restaurant with relaxed pub atmosphere and service, but just cut out the word service, order your drinks in the bar and stroke the waiter's hair to get your drinks at least.

The Tin Drum in Hove has a good atmosphere and consistant food and service. It is also one of the most child friendly places in Hove.
