On June 18th, ex-Nobu head chef Scott Hallsworth and entrepeneur Andre Cachia will open a new Japanese restaurant and bar in Horsham. Set over two floors, it will serve modern Japanese dishes like smoked duck breast tataki and enoki mushroom risotto with truffle shavings. The venue will feature a traditional robata grill and a state-of-the-art aquarium in the ground floor cocktail bar.- June 2010

Really enjoyed the time spent at Wabi - very fresh, tasting food and well looked after by the waiter!!
Unfortunately we seemed to be sitting next to the apparant owner who was more interested in how many tables were filled than exactly customer sastifaction!!
like we were sitting next to the air con - felt quite cold and the so called owner rudely suggested to bring a blanket next time and then went outside, leaving doors open for us to get even more colder!!!

I have been to Wabi 3 times in the last month. I have had experience of Japanese food in Europe, USA, the Far East and Australia so I know when it is good. At Wabi it is exceptionally good.
Initially Wabi had a reputation for being expensive. I suspect that this was because they had Kobe beef on the dinner menu at over £40 a portion. However, Kobe beef is expensive all over the world. Since they revised their menu I do not find their food expensive. At lunchtime you can have Miso soup, a salad and a wonderful beef course with superb dipping sauces for £14.
All of the food is produced with care and skill. The dishes are creative and beautifully presented. The Kirin beer is great and the sake is worthy of a tasting study. There are as many varieties and vintages of sake as in European wines. Understandably there is a range of prices reflecting that. However sake is a unique experience.
We are very lucky to have a restaurant of the quality of Wabi in Horsham. Inevitably there will be some poor comments from those people who expect food like MacDonalds or a curry house. They can be ignored as irrelevant. They would make the same remarks about Michelin starred European restaurants.

Having read the reviews of Wabi available on here I was quite stunned when I went to Wabi and found the food to be of quite an incredible quality. I think the people who previously reviewed Wabi have never experienced proper Japanese food- more likely the dreadful Wagamama. This includes the bigotted Guardian reviewer. Of course the courses are small- it is tapas-style food, afterall. Japanese food is not filling over full kind of food- it is a brilliant balance of fried/ steamed/ boiled and raw which leaves you full, yet not in that over stuffed potato/ wheat way. The drinks were also pretty special.
We had the great £12 for two beers and a bento box to share (bento is a meal in a box, for the uninitiated)- I imagine you can find cheaper food at McDonalds.
Quite simply this is the best restaurant I have been to in Britain- and I have lived in Japan and France, so my experience of good food is rather wide- possibly better than the misleading nonsense the Guardian writer wrote. Please don't believe the review- and go and try for yourself.

By boyfriend took me to Wabi as a special treat to celebrate our anniversary. I was really looking forward to it as I had not had Japanese food before. Well, the food was well presented but they clearly thought I was on a diet. No chance of putting on weight there! It all tasted good until I saw the bill and had I still been eating it would have stuck in my throat.
Like us, I'm sure people will be attracted for the novelty value and to try something new but I cannot see that Wabi will enjoy much repeat business. We won't be going back - it was a rip-off.

I second the previous review. We have been so looking forward to the arrival of Wabi to Horsham, but were bitterly disappointed. The food was incredibly good but in such tiny portions, that it leaves the diner feeling frustrated that there isn't more. In order to leave satisfied, a small fortune would have to be paid.
Come on Wabi, listen to your customers and provide quicker service and larger portions - alternatively significantly cut the prices of your dishes so more can be ordered.

Sadly a disappointing experience, as we were really looking forward to eating there. Staff were very pleasant but the food took ages to come to the table and when it arrived the portions were tiny. We gave up on our last couple of dishes as it was approaching 11pm and our taxi was booked.
We all left the restaurant still feeling hungry. In fairness to Wabi they listened to our complaint and reduced the bill. The food we did taste (and it felt like a taster menu) was very good.
