We went for a Saturday night treat and were really pleased with the experience. Friendly service, even though there were two big tables to serve either side of us. Nice variety on the menu, and the food was clearly lovingly prepared. Some very successful combinations of flavours without falling into the trap of trying too hard. Oh, and the house red was good enough that we didn't feel the need to look further down the wine list.

At £70 for three courses for two people, inc. service and drinks, it really didn't feel expensive. Recommended.

A lovely place. Cool decor, good food, very nice service. In the words of Delia Smith 'let's be 'avin ya' Brighton!

Should be busier really.

We visited Sevendials on an overnight stay in Brighton at Easter - having decided on it by reading a selection of reviews about good quality eateries in Brighton. And all in all, we weren't disappointed.

Firstly, the menu was short as opposed to long - about 6 choices for each course - but all the choices showed imagination that someone had considered each and every dish. I had a delicious gravadlax with pickled cucumbers and beetroots, whilst my partner had a dish of smoked marckrel - which rather unfortunately came with a chopped up fin in the middle of it, which didn't go down too well.

As for mains - we both plummed for veggie options - which as carnivores, says a lot about the appetising nature of the veggie choices on offer. I went for a gnocci with butternut squash in a creamy sauce of walnuts and parmesan, whilst my dinnerdate went for a middle eastern inspried dish of lentil fritters and roasted aubergines. Both great choices.

Service was friendly and understated for a restaurant that makes the most of its high ceilings, with cool lines, big drum lightshades and quirky equine artwork.

All in all a good night out - for £65-ish for 2 of us, for 2 courses, with wine and water - good value for money given the good quality of the food.

You hear a lot about an up-and-coming restaurant scene in Brighton, it's nice to find a place that tries really hard (and succeeds) to live by some good foodie values.

I have visited Sevendials on many occasions and I have always had an enjoyable meal and I think the prices reasonably reflect the quality of the locally sourced seasonal food.

Although smart, it is still laid back and not in the slightest bit stuffy, the waiting staff have always been helpful and accommodating. The Chef is happy to tweak a recipe to your preference - a sure sign that all of the food is freshly cooked and not prepared days before.

I always look forward to a visit to Sevendials; the menu is always interesting without being pretentious - and their French Martini's are killer!

If you want cheap and cheerful there are many restaurants in Brighton that can oblige if you want a relaxed, long, enjoyable meal made with great ingredients then I would strongly recommend Sevendials.

We had the company Xmas dinner at Seven Dials and it was my first visit. Ambience was probably overwhelmed by our large rowdy group, but I suspect otherwise it's quite a chilled place to be. We had whites I didn't try and two reds, a stinker of a Pinot Noir and a decent Chilean Merlot - distinctly unimaginative choices, but the Merlot hit the spot. I, as a veggie, had a a bare table in front of me as I watched 39 others tuck into their starters. Eventually, someone found my plate. Broad bean tagliatelle, and very good too. For the main, I had a bare table... but eventually someone found my plate, a mozzarella salad topped with some bread-based veggie 'steak', all rather flavourless. Dessert of cheeses or chocolate cake all did well. I ordered a tea whilst everyone else had coffee. Instead, I had a bare table... but I'd given up trying to make my voice heard by this point. Overall not a bad experience, though I doubt if had I been paying, that I would return in a hurry. Take a megaphone.

When a friend nominated Seven Dials as the restaurant of choice for our twice-yearly get together, I groaned. On both my two prior visits, I had considered potentially good meals were spoiled by the length of time waiting for the food to arrive. Assured that had changed, I told myself to go with an open mind. On this moderately busy Monday evening, the two waitresses on duty were friendly and reasonably attentive, so it was a shame they were in the firing line for the inadequacies of the kitchen. A 45-minute wait for starters which required no cooking did nothing to keep my mind as open as I had intended. (A thimble of soup ‘appetiser’ in the interim had only made me hanker for the ‘proper’ food.) The delay in bringing the main course was of similar duration and I decided to forego a dessert lest Cinderella’s coach turn into a pumpkin. This really is a shame because the food is good, if a little overpriced and the ambience pleasant. A compulsory 12% service charge is, however, nothing short of criminal.

Went for a wedding anniversary in the week so very quiet. The quality of the food was excellent although not cheap.£100 for 3 courses and a bottle of wine. Presentation of the food and service also excellent. The only annoying thing is a 12% service charge added to your bill. At what point did paying for service become compulsory?

GLOWINGLY GOOD, GO!

Been to 7dials a number of times and have never left without a smile.

Most important is the grub; consistantly excellent.

Service; friendly, approachable, considered and informed.

Wine list; how much dosh do you have? Enjoy.

LEAVING; the bill is always a tad shocking.

BUT you have enjoyed yourself so much, you don't give a shiver.

GO!
