I love going to the Regency. Never had a dud meal, and there's always something different to try, due to the extensive menu & large range of specials.
It's nice and relaxed and usually bustling with locasl & tourists

my wife and i have just enjoyed a break to brighton to see westlife.
we stayed near to the regency and had a brief look at their a board menu and decided to return at about 4.30 for an early dinner due to the time of the show.
we were greeted by friendly staff and proceeded to order a bottle of wine, we had the chilean sauvigon blanc, which was lovely and very chilled.
we quickly decided on the scallops starter and the moules mariner both we scrumptious and we couldnt wait for the mains to arrive.
I opted for the grilled sea bass which fell away from the bone, it was delicious and was simply accompanied with chunky chips and a crisp fresh salad.
my wife had the assortment of grilled fish which was again very impressive(i didnt know sardines could taste so good!)
we finished off with apple pie and profiteroles.the lot came to 58 pound which was really good value, that included a 10% service charge .
we are definately returning there soon on our next visit.

'A nice, laid back up market fish and chip shop'. There is plenty of variety and the quality of the fish is pretty good. Attentive staff and a lively atmosphere make for an interesting evening. A good value for money place and one I would be happy to return to.

Just finished gawping at Jim Farmer's review below, I hope thats a spoof, "taste explosion" er I think not. Maybe he hasn't eaten out much since the 1960s anyway I ended up in the Regency on a recent business trip to Brighton and would say it was adequate at best, I don't think the fish was fresh at all (fresh out of the cupboard maybe) and the house wine was nasty. Really not great, admittedly this is a budget place but that's no excuse in my book, there are better restaurants in the town, make an effort and find one of them.

Having heard lots about good value and fresh fish, as well as proximity to the West Pier, I came here as a tourist on a glorious early February day.
Firstly, whilst the restaurant does have views of the sea, it is the wrong side of a busy main road away from the seafront. Also, for tourists like me, the west pier is an alarming disappointment - it is a rusting heap of metal, the remnants of the pier that once was and closed off to the public to boot as a security risk. I think the story is that the council have neither the money to rebuild nor remove it, so it just sits there looking rather embarrassing.
As for the restaurant, the service was a bit "1970s" - short, somewhat joyless and to the point. The food I ate was of the same school. I asked for a grilled skate; after a long wait my waitress returned to ask me to wait a bit longer, as they had mistakenly fried my fish. Several minutes later, what appeared to be a fried skate was presented as my original grilled order. The chips tasted frozen/microwaved and of poor quality. The salad garnish was unappetising and the half tomato was unripe. I ate the food because I was hungry and did not have time to cause a fuss. The house wine was perfectly good and two requests for mineral water were granted quickly. The atmosphere was pleasant, albeit that (like too many establishments) the manager hasn't really thought through the piped music on offer at all. I would add that the final bill was not a complete rip off, but.....
I would counsel a visit to one of the many beachfront fish 'n' chip shops and maybe an off license beforehand. Then you will get close to the sea and eat better, for half the price.
