The Regency Restaurant

I only went to this restaurant recently, so can't confirm whether or not the negative reviews are right and its quality has deteriorated somehow over the years but I can tell you about MY experience which was of friendly service, delicious fresh fish at great value (huge portion of whitebait and chips for about £8) and generally a great meal out! The only negatives would maybe be the salads which are not sophisticated, really, and the fact it is more like seaside cafe than a restaurant, but don't let appearances fool you - the food is well within good restaurant quality.
There is a wide range of choices on the menu and something to suit every budget, ranging from cod and chips right up to lobster thermadore.
I love it here and always recommend it to visitors. I went with my cousin from Wellington, NZ, who is used to very fresh fish on a daily basis and she loved it so much we went both days she was visiting!

Some friends and I ate here a couple of weeks back. It has been a while since I have eaten here.
First thing I noticed was that the restaurant has expanded. There were not very many people there but the service was ridiculously slow. It took ages for them to serve our drinks.
We were very disappointed with the food. The fish was dry and uninspiring and why isn't the Regency serving decent chips any more? They looked anaemic and limp. They could learn a lesson or two from Bardseley's in Baker Street.
To top this awful experience the charged us for an extra main course and some drinks we didn't order and were rude to us when we queried this.
This restaurant is obviously living on past glories. We will never go here again.

Have eaten here a good few times over the years, but recently have been disappointed. Why a fish and chip restaurant thinks it's acceptable to offer tasteless oven chips I will never know, but apparently the Regency now does. Last Friday we thought we'd have a long leisurely lunch, and enjoy the fish (if not the chips!). We decided to share a couple of starters and then take a break before ordering mains. King prawns in garlic butter with bread to mop up and a greek salad. The prawns were very tasty although not cleaned properly, but the greek salad....oh dear! A small bowl of iceberg lettuce, with a very few slices of onion, ditto cucumber, dutch tomatoes quartered and a few black olives and cubes of feta.......and if it hadn't been for the dressing there would have been no taste at all. It was like eating crunchy air! For £3.50 they could have easily used better quality ingredients. We left the salad barely touched and ate the prawns. When the waiter cleared the table, he asked if everything was all right. Pointing to the uneaten salad, we told him that it was awful. Without commenting or reacting he went away, and we were then totally ignored. After some time, we left some money on the table, got up and walked away. We won't be back.

The regency restaurant was recommended by a friend in london. So on a recent visit to Brighton we decided to give it a try.The building is a very grand regency type which is typical of Brighton's Regency Past. The interior of the restaurant is a very pleasant combination of modern and regency style which seems to work well together. The seafood was excellend and we were very pleased with the service. As an added bonus the kids got to see the actor Lee Evans sitting in one corner with friends enjoying his seafood.
We will definitelly be back.
