We had a very enjoyable visit to Jamie's Italian in Brighton last night. The food was good, the service was excellent and friendly and the bill was relatively cheap in that 3 courses plus wine cost under £30 a head. I liked the atmosphere, suprisingly busy for a monday and I found them all helpful and pleasant . I look forward to going there again.

Amazing. Beautiful food, great value, great atmosphere.

When anyone visits me, this is where we go to eat. :)

Bland and overpriced.

Trading on the 'good' name of J.O only.

Save a bit of cash, walk another 20 yards in any direction and enjoy a far better dining experience.

Another one using the" Italian Cuisine" to become famous! That's a pity as either the food and the ingridients have got not Italian taste at all..!!

Another scam by people that opens Italian reastaurants when they are not Italians, dont know anything about italy and the way food is prepared in italy.

Overall the restaurant looks very poor.

Hugely disappointed. Terrible communication with customers on the door, I was told to wait with a buzzer for 10 minutes which happened to be 30 minutes. When we walked through the place we were wondering why we had to wait for such a long time when it was half empty. Front of the house looked stressed, food was ok, little on the cold side, starter size was more like a canape...

My husband and I are Jamie fans and have eated at three different Jamies Italians, as well as 15 in London, and 15 in Melbourne. Have been to Jamies Italian in Brighton three times before and think things are deteriorating. Whilst the concept is great I think they are victims of their own success.

We had to wait ages to place an order for both food and drinks, and then waited over half an hour for our starters. We ordered 3 starters to share and only two turned up, and had to ask for the 3rd. Our main course turned up and was put in front of us when we had only had our starter for 10 minutes and had not finished them. We asked for another glass of wine and then had to re ask 10 minutes later, it still took ages.

The food is very nice but I would say that it is quite expensive and there are many restaurants in brighton that offer as good if not better food for less money. The 8 oz sirloin steak is £16.45 and does not even come with chips/fries. Fries are £2.75 making quite a simple steak and chips at Jamies £19.20 - excessive I think.

Overall I would say we felt neglected and left thinking we had spent alot of money for poor service and ok food. I would say Carluccios in comparison is better value and with consistant great attentive service.

Didn't plan to eat here but ended up being pleasantly surprised. Bit of a long wait in the bar / holding pen area, but the place was clearly rammed and they slung a bit of salami our way to keep the peace.

Jamie's on to a winner with this chain. The cosy lighting, semi-open kitchen, well-stocked ham bar, etc - all looks great. The staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable, recommending dishes they liked without being pushy.

Two drinks, two puds, one pork belly special, and one sausage pappardelle later; we'd spent about £40. Great value (though we are used to London prices) and everything was tasty, if not mindblowing. The chocolate brownie gets a special mention for being ultra-gooey in the middle, laced with booze and accompanied by some excellent ice-cream.

As chains go, we felt it was miles better than the usual suspects (ASK, Carluccios, etc) and expect the Covent Garden branch (opening in June) to be seriously popular.

I have been here 3 times since it opened and the one thing I like about this place is that it is consistently good. It doesn't rank amongst the best in Brighton but I am happy that when I go here I get excellent service, excellent quality of ingredients and a good standard of food and excellent value for money.

Saw Gennaro Contaldo in the kitchens on my last visit - the man who mentored Jamie Oliver on Italian cooking.

We have eaten at Jamies twice now, going back the second time because we had enjoyed the first visit so much, and we are planning our third visit this month. We found the food superb, the staff very efficient and the atmosphere very relaxed. You can't book in advance unless there are 8 or more of you but this wasn't a problem for us either time. Friends had to wait for a table but sat chatting with a drink in the bar area quite happily until a table was free. We would certainly recommend the restaurant.

Visited for an early evening meal on 15 December and we were hugely disappointed. The special of the day soup ordered by my husband missed one of the listed ingredients and the salad that accompanied his beef cappacio lacked three. My "crispy" squid was a very sad and soggy affair and the fritto misto lacked flavour and texture, was luke warm and not at all what one would expect from the menu description. The wine - an Italian Primitivo - was delicious but all things food were not at all what the menu leads one to expect, represented very poor value for money and was short on seasoning / flavour, never mind the issue of temperature! All in all, we felt that this is nothing but a glorified fast food joint where the number of covers turned over is more important than the quality of the food. Based on our experience, we will not visit again. We also think that Jamie's needs to reconsider its position on table reservations - when people go out to eat for a special occasion they do not want to be told to "come back later" (especially not when the restaurant is empty). Customers want the comfort of knowing that a table and staff are waiting to welcome them and their party of guests - all this "holding" people in the bar or sending them away until "later" does nothing whatsoever to enhance the Jamie's Italian experience.
