mass produced food which was ok but not as good as carluccio's in a pretty ropey venue. why any one would queue to go, I have no idea. brighton is full of excellent independent restuarants - support them and not this.

If you are looking for a chain restaurant with tasty food for a reasonable price, Jamie's Italian may be what you are looking for. I visited Jamie's in Brighton on a Tuesday evening arriving at about 6:45 p.m. and found there was already a wait for a table. We waited about 40 min. for a table in the downstairs area. The wait staff was very busy, but after an initial delay, our orders were taken and arrived at a reasonable pace. I don't quite understand why this restaurant is so popular other than the current trend of following celebrity chefs. I guess if you are young, don't mind a wait, and tolerate a high noise level; you might enjoy Jamie's Italian. I did have a very good tiramisu for desert. In the US, this would compare to Olive Garden Restaurant, or any chain along those lines.

obviously the place is a bit hyped up so you need to take this into account. Went on Saturday 5th September for lunch. luckily didn't have to queue which was a good start. Waitresses are attentive and helpful. My daughter had the burger which was lovely and the bun homemade and very tasty she said. I had Olives while i was waiting with a tapenade which was unusual although i wouldn't agree with the quote on the menu " the best olives in the world"...i have had a lot better. Chestnut mushrooms to start and chilli prawn linguine. both were tasty and pasta was cooked perfectly. my wife had squid to start which was good and Carbonara as a main which she said was very nice

Personally I think it is one of those places that if you haven't been you will just to try it. It was slightly underwhelming for me but maybe my expectation was too high.

It was mine and my boyfriends first trip to Brighton and we were looking for somewhere special but not too costly to dine out at on a Saturday night.

A couple of our friends had recommended Jamie's restaurant so we decided to take their advice and go ...we were very glad we did!

Obviously Saturday nights are busy and you are unable to book a table in advance at the establishment but upon arrival we were givin a pager of all things, so that we could go off and have a few drinks until they were ready for us. We only had to wait around 40 minutes and were greeted by very friendly staff.

The menu is magnificent with a wide range of dishes that don't usually appear on the average italian's.

To begin with, we decided to share the Deep Fried Squid with Tomato Pesto Mayonnaise and the Anti-pasti Meat Platter.

The platter arrived and was served on a wide wooden board-the meat was very tasty but the best bit was the tangy pecorino cheese with chilli jam!

The squid and pesto were a lovely combination and the perfect amount for the two of us.

For mains we just could not decide...fortunately their pasta dishes come in a smaller portion size and a larger one too meaning my boyfriend could order the "Flash Steak" AND a small Crag Linguine! Good for him!

I chose the small Pumpkin and Ricotta filled pasta and a side order of Truffle Chips-very posh!

My boyfriend's steak was divine-prefectly cooked with an amazing chargrill flavour (we were informed it was cooked under a brick!) His Crab Linguine however was rather acidic and salty but we had a wonderful waiter who provided a very attentive and professional service and he swapped the dish for a traditional Spag Bol immediately which tasted superb!

My Pumpkin Pasta was to die for-they were rich sweety shaped parcels of heaven! The Rosemary sauce complimented it beautifully and I was rather upset i didn't order the bigger portion!! The Truffle Chips were sprinkled with parmesan and melted in the mouth! A lovely treat!

We both decided to share a dessert too which we can't often manage-we went for the Banana and Chocolate Nut Brownie with Ice Cream and we were not disappointed! It was rich, creamy and nutty-and we had to fight over the last mouthful!

We washed this all down with a bottle of house white which was most refreshing.

Unbelievably, the greatest moment was when the bill arrived...the whole dinner only cost us £63 which for the quality and amount we consumed we felt was most acceptable!!

Overall, the service, atmosphere and food were delightful and we left in high spirits without feeling over-stuffed or broke!!

I fully recommend this enchanting dining experience as we will definitely be back again!
