Restaurant Tristan

I've been there twice now - both times for dinner.
Food is bordering on Michelin star quality, but at very reasonable prices.
I've heard service can be a slight problem, but both times my girlfriend & I went we thought it was fine.
The place itself is quite small - seating about 30-40 I should think.
It's the top floor of an old Tudor house, so expect exposed beams, wooden flooring, simple whitewashed walls and so on. Very romantic & fairly quiet.
The quality of ingredients is superb & so is the timing of the cookery.
For this sort of money (as long as your partner doesn't decide to sample all parts of the wine list!) you won't do much better in terms of value for money.
Portions aren't massive (& we always ask for a couple of slices of the wonderful bread) but think about the cost of the raw ingredients.
Desserts are superb with the valrhona chocolate tart with a kind of space dust base & tonka bean ice cream being a real eye-opener!
A shame Tristan opened during the worst recession in modern history. Let's hope the restaurant is still there in a year's time. It deserves to be.

I had lunch there recently on a special offer £10 for 2 courses.
The place was empty. which is a shame because at that price it was a steal.
Obviously good service but excellent food and in spite of the fact that it was empty I liked the feel of the place.
Very good value at that price.
Would I still go at evening prices? Yes I tried to get in on Valentine's night but it was booked out. I will try again.
