The Restaurant at Drakes
your comments review this restaurant
My wife and I went to Drakes last night and had such a lovely meal i felt compelled to write my first ever review. The staff were so friendly and helpful it set the evening up from the start. Professional and yet personable. I would definitley recommend it to anybody.
The dining room was elegant with great photographic works on the wall and provided an intimate atmosphere with a bit of class without being cheesy.
The food was spot on and between courses we were presented with little extra dishes from the kitchen which added to the experience, showed the skill of the chef and made you feel a little bit special.
I thoroughly enjoyed the English sparkling wine (which was a first for me) with a first course of oysters and a sumptuous Argentian Malbec with my main course of duck.
All round great night out.

This is the first review I've ever bothered to write, and feel compelled to do this because of the experience I had last night at the restaurant at drakes. I was completely blown away, the food the best I've ever tasted, cocktails from the bar made with such excellence and service both fun and professional. The night was perfect and urge everyone that hasn't been there to go, its fantastic!

I took my wife to Drakes for a surprise birthday dinner at the end of December. Having a birthday so close to Christmas, it is difficult to find somewhere to enjoy a special meal as most good restaurants are closed between Christmas and New Year. This year we really did have a treat! We started off in the bar with a bottle of Laurent Perrier Rose and then headed downstairs for dinner. The restaurant was pretty busy and we were escorted to our table by a really friendly waiter by the name of Nick. We are both foodies and went for the four course menu. The food was sensational, the highpoint for me had to be the steak- cooked rare and to perfection. My wife is all about desserts -her souffle was amazing. I had phoned ahead to say that it was her birthday and the chef had piped happy birthday in chocolate around the plate, it really made her night. We had a fantastic time and are so happy that we have found such a great place to eat so close to home. We will definitely be going back again in the very near future.

I was here in December and the food was astounding! I have to agree this is easily Brighton's best restaurant and well up to London standards.
The meal was started with an amuse buche and ended with some beautiful petit fours and salted fudge - great touch.
My only complaint was the service we did get forgotten about and staff were clearly more concerned about tidying the kitchen than getting the bill for us... much to my disappointment as I was on a disastrous date and really just wanted to leave!

I ate at this restaurant a few weeks ago with my partner and we loved it!! In my opinion it is the BEST restaurant in Brighton. The service was fantastic and the staff couldn't do enough for us.I am usually a fussy eater by everything looked and smelt so tasty this was soon forgotton. I opted for a three course meal, I indulged in Truffles (which I have never had before--they are now one of my favourites) a steak with local vegetables and finally a mango sorbet..not forgetting the little complimentary tasting dishes in between courses - what a great touch!!! I would also highly reccomend the english white white -chapel down. I will definatley be returning soon and I can't wait!!

We went last week following the advise of the previous review, well Im not sure we were there on a bad night but the service was bad.
We had to wait for our table, which was odd as it was booked at 800, so I cant imagine that someone was there before, when we finally got down we were given our menus and some lovely little appitisers then....... forgotten. I mean you could see the staff were trying and the food was lovely when we got it but we always had to get the waiters attention, and always had to wait for everything.
As I said the food was great, lovely trio of pork dish, and my wife had a great steak, but I just think when your paying this much the service should be there, they also ran out of the wine we wanted, then the wine we had by the glass was obviously old and undrinkable, by the time we were finished our mains we really had to get back to our bay sitter so no time for desserts.
I think if your after a special occasion and you want to be taken care of stick with the origonal and the best Nolfolk Square, sorry Drakes we gave it a go.
