We were in a large group. Service was pleasant and efficient. Good atmosphere in the restaurant.

Food was variable. A couple of starters were really good. Main courses. Liver overcooked (but not so far as to be rubbery). Fish had tired batter. House wine reasonably priced.

Overall a decent experience and reasonably priced.

We have been regular visitors to Brown's in Brighton. It's a lovely restaurant, with it's old fashioned traditional air , copled with the green plants around it, it really has an enchanting atmosphere . Some of the staff we too found a bit iffy. We found it an enjoyable experience & food good. One thing we didn't like was that most (or all ) of the waiters had their tea cloth tucked into the back of their trousers and hanging down over their backsides......help. Where's the Health & Safety there??? Before today, we hadn't been back for quite a long time, maybe a year or so.

Our impression was that it has gone off the boil and how. We waited for our meal (patiently) for well over half an hour. .

My husband had the Sunday roast (beef) he said was ok I had Brown's Fish in Batter. Battered it had been, but not in a nice way. It was old batter, thick and certainly not fresh. For a restaurant a few yards from the sea, the fish was so poor it could have come to Brighton on a slow boat from China. It was tasteless and rubbery & horrible. I thought at first they had forgotten the chips. But in fact they were well hidden under the fish, and no wonder. They had been cooked, or that's how it looked, at least a few times. All in all quite a horrible meal. One redeeming feature was that when I complained in a constructive fashion, they had the courtesy to say they would delete the price of my meal from the bill, which they did. But what was odd the person who took my complained said he was sorry about the chips, but they had run out of them...2o'clock in the afternoon, & had had to get them from the chip shop????

. Would I go back. I doubt it. But it's a shame, because we eat out fairly regularly and so would have gone back, except for this not nice experience. Added to the meal fiasco the bar counter started to fill up with glasses from the return trays. But no one took the bother to remove. By the time we were leaving they were sprawling & piling up across a good area of the bar counter. What a sloppy couldn't care less attitude. Most of the staff were young Those behind the bar couldn't have cared less and were totally oblivious to the mountain of used glasses. There didn't appear to be one mature person in charge, to make sure things like that did not happpen and keep them in check. .

Who owns Brown's? I would suggest they make some unannounced visits. Or perhaps employ some mystery shoppers.

I think generally people, as a result of the financial problems we are having to face, are looking for good service, good standards, good food, more than ever. Brown's need to waken up and smell the coffee.

Shocking experience!

My girlfriend and I were quickly seated and told one of the staff would be with us shortly. 5 minutes, 10 minutes passed, then 15 so we decided to leave. Truly terrible experience, the staff appeared to have no assertiveness what so ever. We certainly won't be visiting any of their restaurants ever again. Epic fail on their part.
