Bardsley's

My absolute favourite restaurant for Fish and Chips in Brighton. Great variety of fish. On our last visit we went for the "Platter" which for us was a choice of five different fish. We chose - Sea Bass, Lemon Sole, Salmon, Scallops and Skate - then asked the chef to cook them as he thought best. Traditional cod etc. also available which we have enjoyed previously. Lovely bottle of wine too and a good choice of soft drinks for the kids. Good atmosphere and very friendly staff made it a great night out for us all. Highly recommended - Great opportunity to try some fish you may have not considered before - all prepared and served in a great way.

My partner and i went to Bardsleys last weekend and we were a bit dissapointed by the quality of the fish and chips and the restaurant. We had searched on the internet for the best fish and chip shop in Brighton and decided to go here from the reviews on this site. The restaurant had more of a cafe/bistro feel to it rather than a restaurant and yet charged restaurant prices! The fish and chips were ok, mine was bit watery and the service was unremarkable. Just an average fish and chip restaurant if you ask me!

We had heard that this place had the best fish and chips in Brighton. So after a long walk to find it we had high expectations. The place is nice and clean but its pretty much just like your local chippy with tables and chairs inside, no restaurant feel to it. I had a medium cod and chips, cod was nice and fresh and so were the chips but they were just as good as what I get at home. My child had fish fingers and instead of chips we asked for peas which were mushy but it didn't state this on the menu and the fish fingers were salmon which also wasn't stated on the menu, my daughter didn't like the peas so barely ate the fish fingers and so we paid £3.50 for 4 fish fingers. My husband had a large plaice and chips but the portions really aren't very generous and he was left feeling quite hungry still! The bill came to £26 for 2 adult dinners, 1 child's and 2 cans of drink. If you're in the area then go but don't go out of your way as I don't think it's really worth the walk. In addition the waiters are too busy to smile.

The Fish is excellent and lovely relaxed restaurant with a more hidden away area if you are looking for a bit more privacy/intimacy! The choice of fish is amazing, my only quibble lately is that the more popular it became the more expensive it got, and getting a take-away is expensive and I have also noticed recenlty the chip portions are very small, shame bigger chip portions and no more price rises and definatley worth a visit.

What a find! My relatives visit about five times a year and insist on going to Bardsleys every time.....It has never let us down. The fish is always the best you have ever tasted,The service is always effecient and friendly, On top of these glowing statements, Roy, the" Boss Man"comes out to customers tables to ensure they are happy and enjoying themselves, this makes for a good atmosphere, he is always cheerful even when having a winge about something!
It is advisable to book on a Friday or Saturday night, it is so popular amongst the locals and the take away queque is out of the door but quickly served.
The only criticism is that it is not nearer to my house!

We visitied Bardsley's on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Brighton. The level of service was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and kept small children entertained whilst encouraging them to finish their meal!
The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, we would recommend the Grilled Sea Bass.
An added bonus is Bardlsey's are licenced, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or a chilled beer with your meal.
It may not be on the sea front, but service and quality of food make it a worth a visit.

I went to this Fish and Chip shop for the first time in November for my birthday and loved it; the fish and chips were really lovely, perfectly steamed inside the batter and not one dodgy chip on the plate!
BUT Having raved about it to anyone that would listen, I went back this Saturday with my Dad; he was really looking forward to it. We arrived at 8pm only to be told that the restaurant was closed, which seemed a bit odd as it was a Saturday night and there were plenty of empty tables, when I asked if they could fit us in and that we really didn't mind waiting, the owner basically told me that he had eighty fish and chips to cook, presumably a take away order for somebody, and that he 'didn't really need it' that is mine and my Dad's business, I was really gobsmacked. Now it is clear from all of the reviews that this place is making a lot of money and is doing well in a town that is awash with great restaurants, but I think the arrogant owner needs to take care not to get too carried away and remember how he makes his money, that is through good customers and I, would imagine, a good deal of word of mouth. When you head out for dinner on a Saturday night, you don’t expect to be made to feel like an inconvenience. I would never go back to this restaurant and I won’t be recommending it to anyone either.
