Four of us had a wonderful meal here. I went to Bardsleys based on positive reviews on this site and we were not disappointed in any way. Lovely service and perfectly cooked, good quality food. Can't wait to visit Brighton again!

Probably the best Fish and Chip shop in the South! We had our wedding breakfast there.
The fish is fresh (not frozen) and you can have it poched or grilled if you prefer. They have an alchohol licience and a large resturant area with table service. You need to reserve a table on Friday because they get so busy (queues out into the street).
I can't recommend them enough.

Bardsleys is a great example of how you can still get quality fish and chips at a sensible price. In spite of the complaints by some reviewers on this page it should be realised that the fish and chips they are getting nostalgicly weepy about simply don't exist any more- They don't fry in beef dripping and you are never going to get that crispy deliciousness again. Get over it and enjoy whats available, the best of which is Bardsleys, and if you think Bardsleys is bad, take a stroll down to the foot of the Steine and sample the muck they serve up in Harry Ramsden's, come back and redefine the word "greasy" for us.
Roy and co serve the best fish that is available, and increasingly theres less and less quality fish to serve. For that reason they will often recommend a good looking frozen piece if there is not a fresh alternative. I have yet to find a better quality chippy in the south of england and always take visitors for a bite at Bardsleys, it may not be what fish and chips were, but it is as good as it gets and I lap it up.

Bardsley's is the complete package. Delicious food, friendly staff and good value for money. I have been eating there regularly for the last five years and will continue to do so for many years to come.

at the other guy said is true... I have lived in Brighton all my life, and yes, Bardsleys is a quality establishment, but still they are lving off their reputation in the past few years. The chips are very very greasy, and though boasting line-caught fish most of their stuff isn't really up to the high standards of which they claim. Roy, sort it out mate and give us the quality chips we all desire!

The restaurant has recently been refurbished with more dining room space and look more upmarket and better for it. My partner and I had a wonderful meal there last week.
We both had the Pollock & Chips. It was wonderful, non-greasy and everything you would expect for a reputable fish restaurant. The service was cheerful and polite.
All in all a very positive and enjoyable experience.

Bardsleys is a family owned fish and chip restaurant
in the heart of Brighton. Brighton is a major tourist attraction on the south coast of England. Being a sea side town Brighton is swarmed with fish and chip shops based mostly on the seafront. But more into the heart of Brighton on Baker street off London road lies Bardsleys a family business since 1926. Bardsleys is a successful restaurant. They do a range of meals for simple fish and chips to a seafood platter. They are also thought to be in the top ten fish and chip shops in the UK. There are 3 owners a husband and wife and their son and they all work behind the counter and are fully committed to the business. Bardsleys is a very successful restaurant, the restaurant is also available for hire and you are also allowed to bring your own alcohol into the restaurant.

Have most of these 'reviewers' got a clue about fish and chips or food for that matter? Are they friends of the management?
Bardsleys is living on past 'glories' and is very average.
Chips are meant to be crispy on the outside and light and fuffy inside, theirs are
greasy, dull and lifeless - a bit like the above reviewers!!

What a cracking place Bardsleys is. Fantastic quality and really polite old fashioned service. I havent been since they refurbished the plaice but if the same people are still running it, then they will do no wrong.
'The most perfect skate I have tasted', my dining companion commented as we toasted with our BYO bubbly and he has lived a full life and visited plenty of good restaurants.
If you enjoy simply cooked, top quality, incredibly fresh fish and huge portions for the sensible price then this is the place if you can find it.
London Road and turn right at the Co-op.
By the way, its not BYO anymore, such a shame but you cant have it all.
