We had a great family meal here on a dull and rainy Brighton summer afternoon!
The wonderful variety of tastes, textures and colours of the food certainly took our minds off the conditions outside! The calm and welcoming atmosphere enveloped us from the moment we stepped in off the busy street outside. We sampled a wide range of dishes from the menu, all of them with distinctly different flavours and textures - it says something when, at the end of the meal we were each trying to decide which had been our favourite dish, we couldn't narow the choice down to less than three each!
All members of the family enjoyed the meal - experienced foodies and junk food teenagers alike - the subtle flavours appealed to everyone and there was nothing too spicy for younger members of the family - one of our sons, not known for willingly trying new foods, was really enthused by the whole experience and loved tasting so many different things.
We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant - incidentally, none of our party was a vegetarian, but the outstanding tastes of the vegetable dishes we enjoyed were enough to persudade us that we really could exist on vegetables alone!
My (the mum!) personal three favourites were the string hoppers (what a great name!), the lemon and ginger rice and the cabbage mallum!

We have always enjoyed eating at Moonstone, infact it our faviourite not-so-local restaurant. After having a great new years eve there we decided to have a 30th birthday party there. They kindly gave us the whole venue (upon us assuring certain numbers etc) They were extremely efficiant serving nearly 40 people speedily and with positive attitude. It was amazing that the high standard of food and delivery didnt suffer with the numbers. Everything was perfect and we are certain to not just keep going back for regular evenings but also special occasions. Highly recomended.

Had a poor meal here last night. The service was pleasant enough but the food was bland and none of us thought we were getting value for money.
Overrated.

We have been to this restaurant several times and think it is excellent. I spent some time living in Sri Lanka many years ago and it's a delight to taste such authentic dishes, which are quite different from those you would find in a typical Indian restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful, too. Thoroughly recommended.

I've been to the Moonstone 4 times now and it's an absolute gem! The veggie dishes are a real highlight, all with very distinct flavours so they can be proper mains not just side dishes. Great selection of meat and fish too - I really recommend the seer fish (bit like tuna) especially if you don't fancy anything too hot. If you're hardcore then the staff are happy to crank the spice levels up to max (try this with the devilled chicken!) Service is friendly, restuarant is nice, clean and modern with a relaxed feel to it, nice selection of beers too (Lion is a local SL beer and very very good). Tired of same old Indian and Thai restuarants then go to the Moonstone. In fact just go there anyway, it's bloooming marvellous.

Visited Moonstone tonight, based on reviews read here. I absolutely loved it!! The vegetarian fried rice is one of the best I've ever had and the devilled prawn curry was sublime. Portions were just right. I can't fault a thing, from the food to the decor to the service. I'll definitely be going back again because Moonstone is a wonderful, affordable treat. Well done!!

Great place - something a bit diferent. Don't expect your usual Indian restaurant. The food is delicious and has to be tried to be able to describe it. The curries are light, deliciously spicy with fresh herbs and cocnut milk. The host, Dimuthu Mendis, is on hand to help you make your choices if you are not sure what to eat. The restaurant has a calm, relaxed atmosphere and everything is very clean and classy.
A visit here will certainly help your 'karma' - I would fully recommend this restaurant
