After a long day looking at apartments in the area I felt very tired on a wet Friday evening. I stopped by this establishment and was greeted by friendly staff and the best fish and chips I have had in years. I would fully recommend a visit and will be returning again myself very soon and would like to add the cappuccino was lovely.

Still some (lots) catching up with Bardsley's. Bankers don't have any style.

Fantastic Chippie, Average Restaurant

If it's a chippie you're after, you'll be hard pressed to find a better one in town. If's it's a sit-down dining experience, I would look elsewhere. Yes, the fish is very good - fried on demand, generous portions - no need to go bigger than 'medium' when it comes to choosing your fish size - It's already huge! As for the chips, one portion is quite enough for two! Buy, and take it away with you.

The restaurant part of Bankers is a sad, soulless place -- harsh strip lighting bleaches out any atmosphere and the tables are cheaply laid out - it's has all the atmosphere of a cheap greasy spoon...the one saving grace is the old turn-of-the century photos that adorn the restaurant's walls. Service is efficient, but not warm or welcoming.

Not having been to Bankers since the mid 1990's, I was a little worried it may have gone downhill in that time, when I took my husband (who has never been to Brighton) and my toddler there for lunch recently.

Could not believe the same waitress was still serving (brisk, efficient and friendly) and was very pleasantly surprised to find the food excellent and exactly as it had been before.

The fish is so fresh they thoroughly deserve their reputation and award for being one of the top fish and chip places in the UK in 2010.

Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress either- always good when you have a small child in tow.

My only gripe is that the peas, which from memory were once garden peas (probably frozen back then, but still lovely) are now horrible, slightly brown-tinged canned peas- that's why I've only given a 9 for the food. Yuk! Please bring the frozen peas back!

Can't wait to go back.

Being a native of Dewsbury ( reputedly the town in UK with most fish n chip shops in the country, per head of population ) I am a strict critic. "Bankers" surprised me--it is without doubt the best fish n chip restaurant I have been to in the South.Fresh fish, correct batter, cooked piping hot.Good chips. Great place.

I visited this resteraunt on the basis of online reviews and was dissapointed.

The cod and chips were cheap and nasty and came as default on a plate with no sides. The batter was overly greasy and the chips were nothing special. The coke was diluted post-mix and the milkshake was cheap icecream and milk.

The atmosphere was cosy seaside cafe, although it wasn't close enough to the front to have a good view on it's side. The salt and pepper shakers were dented and had dried splashes of something brown coating them. This kind of cafe wouldn't have been out of place in the 80s, and it was pretty clear that their main demographic was the age 60+ population taking advantage of the OAP special.

It's pretty clear that there are plenty of other fish and chip shops about Brighton selling very similar fare for alot cheaper. Don't bother with this place. I'd imagine your local chippie's fare is probably far better.

I visited Bankers with my family last night after reading some of the reviews on this website and i must say we were not dissapointed! We all went for cod and chips with my son having a kids portion. The food was not greasy at all and the batter on the fish was crispy and light. We were served by Maria who always had a smile on her face. Well done Bankers we will be visiting again next time we come to Brighton!
