Bankers Fish & Chips

Being a native of Dewsbury ( reputedly the town in UK with most fish n chip shops in the country, per head of population ) I am a strict critic. "Bankers" surprised me--it is without doubt the best fish n chip restaurant I have been to in the South.Fresh fish, correct batter, cooked piping hot.Good chips. Great place.

I visited this resteraunt on the basis of online reviews and was dissapointed.

The cod and chips were cheap and nasty and came as default on a plate with no sides. The batter was overly greasy and the chips were nothing special. The coke was diluted post-mix and the milkshake was cheap icecream and milk.

The atmosphere was cosy seaside cafe, although it wasn't close enough to the front to have a good view on it's side. The salt and pepper shakers were dented and had dried splashes of something brown coating them. This kind of cafe wouldn't have been out of place in the 80s, and it was pretty clear that their main demographic was the age 60+ population taking advantage of the OAP special.

It's pretty clear that there are plenty of other fish and chip shops about Brighton selling very similar fare for alot cheaper. Don't bother with this place. I'd imagine your local chippie's fare is probably far better.

Ive had fish & chips all over the UK but i've never tasted fish & chips like this, myself and my family really enjoyed the food and the service was fantastic too.

I visited Bankers with my family last night after reading some of the reviews on this website and i must say we were not dissapointed! We all went for cod and chips with my son having a kids portion. The food was not greasy at all and the batter on the fish was crispy and light. We were served by Maria who always had a smile on her face. Well done Bankers we will be visiting again next time we come to Brighton!

Bankers is a restaurant I will certainly be going back too.I ordered the cod and chips the fish was the best i have ever tasted and the chips were cooked to perfection!Our food arrived promptly and was well presented.

The staff were all very polite and helpful, answering any questions we had.I found the restaurant to be clean and well kept I really liked the old photos dipicting Brighton as it used to be.

I would recommened this restaurant to any one who wants fantastic fish and chips for a good price!

Went to Brighton to meet some mates for the day and we went to Bankers restaurant for lunch. Ordered Haddock and chips which I must say it was very tasty I enjoyed every mouth full.

Was not too pricey and the staff and the atmosphere was very pleasant I will definitely be going there again next time I am in Brighton.

I went to Bankers restaurant for lunch the other week and I must say the cod and chips were very tasty.

It is a lovely place to go the staff are very friendly, lovely atmosphere and the service was great I will definitely be going there again.

Was worth every penny for the best fish and chips around.

The quality of food and atmosphere were all above average while the food was fantastic and excellant value for your money.

The staff worked hard to service your needs and all of your requirements will be met in this all round spot on eaterie.

Bankers - I can only say that it was the BEST Fish and Chips I have ever had.

I live in the USA - Firstly in Boston (which is also famous for its excellent Seafood) and Tybee Island GA (Forest Gump country) which is famous for Flounder and Shrimp. I also owned a Restaurant for quite a while but I am in no way partial or bias towards anywhere I have eaten. (I am from the UK originally)

Was visiting Brighton and the New Forest (a wedding - not in UK by choice ;0) ) and was told by the staff at The Drake Hotel (very nice) that Bankers was the best if I liked traditional English Fish and Chips. We walked past H Ramsdens and were sadly pretty disappointed by the look of the place and the fact it took 10 minutes to even get a look at the menu before sitting down. Screaming kids and a general "Shoney's" atmosphere (that is a family chain restaurant in the US that is not good) . We left quickly and went to Bankers.

We were sat immediately - Restaurant was more than 1/2 full at 6:45pm.

I ordered Cod in Matzo meal and wife and friend both got the Haddock in Matzo meal. Phenomenal !!!! The chips were excellent too... My friend and I had beer and my wife had some good wine - not too pricey (and if you are American reading this - 1/2 the price of any wine I have had in the US)

I would give a 9.5/10 for this meal. In fact, I think the only criticism was it may have been too much food. That is rare in the UK from what I have seen. The waitress earned every bit of her very good tip ! Well done Bankers keep it up

A very stroppy chippy. Waitresses behind the take out were rude, got the order wrong, and the fish was over cooked, tasted of nothing, the chips where auful and left overs.

Frankly, Bankers has gone down hill. The reputation has superseeded them and they have dropped all the good expectations i used to have for them. Real shame!!!
