I would just like to add that I think I ate at Sam's the same night as the gentleman below, judging by the date. Contrary to his review myself and my husband had a wonderful evening!

Our waiter couldn't have been more helpful and attentive, allowing us to try some different wines before we commited to a carafe. The other staff seemed both jolly and efficient.

The duck dish we both chose was truly impeccable and the crumble delicious. Our water chose us a lovely pudding wine from South Africa to finish.

A lovely way to celebrate my birthday. Highly recommeneded!

Last Saturday evening - had asked to booked for 8pm and was "told" that this was not available and they could "mange" 8.15pm. turned up on time - and the welcome could only be termed "cold". No offer of drinks - we had to ask!! Request for a dish with no rpwans - was met be "see if there is anything else you would like!!" Food was good - but the service could only be called disinterested, verging on rude. We were interupting the 3 staff who were having a lovely time chatting amongst themselves - wine and food were left to wair until conversations were finished. Would vertainly not go back - this was my second time -and the first time on a Firday luch was similar - good food and lacking in service. Table very close - you have to move your table to let your neighbour get out!!

Lousy service - good food - if you want to take the chance - then go for it - but would definintly not go back or recommed

We went to Sam last night for the third time and we certainly weren't disappointed as both the food and service were excellent.

We are here recently and the food was fantastic, however the were a few other problems.

There was a mistake with each of my three courses, and with 2 other puddings - which seemed to be related to communication between table staff and the kitchen. Each time the waitress delt with it very well - she was apologetic, rectified the problem quickly, and reduced our bill, but it did mean I ate my starter after the rest of the table, a side order arrived after I had eaten most of my main course, and I didn't quite get the pudding I had asked for.

The tables are VERY close together and I found it difficult to get out from the wall seats without rocking the table, or being really quite intrusive to the next table.

The Graphic Foodie

The Graphic Foodie

Sunday, March 28, 2010 - Let's get straight into the food as frankly, it knocked my socks off. I chose both my main and pudding from the specials board and all but one of us also opted for the Slow braised Shoulder of South Downs Lamb with Boulangere Potatoes, Salamanca Lentils and Salsa Verde. This plate of food worked so, so perfectly. Succulent, sweet lamb with the comforting lentils and then the zing of the salsa verde. One bite in and our table chiored a uniform mmmmmm tune, culling our preceeding animated chatter to a slience as we all privately concentrated on how jolly marvelous this plate of food was.
