Lovely venue, friendly staff and amazing food at amazing value. I took my French friend and we both had the 2 course Les Plats Du Jour lunch for £9.95 and shared a bottle of house wine £14.50.

With the children at nursery we ended up staying for a couple of hours and it was really nice not to be rushed. Try the steak Onglet and duck fat chips which are crispy, sweet and seasoned perfectly.

Already booked to go back in the evening with my husband!!

As an event manager I am lucky enough to travel around the world, sampling cuisine from all 4 corners, however, it is always a pleasure to return home to Brighton and the friendly faces in L'Eglise. The food is always fantastic and the specials board means that there is always a variety. As for the previous comments on this site, I could not disagree more, the food is fresh and the flavours fantastic, the person who wrote the negative comment is entitled to their opinions and tastes but I would be intrigued to hear their opinion on a better restaraunt in the Brighton and Hove area

Well done Jean Christophe and the team, ignore the negative as the general consensus is you have a winner on your hands

I clearly have been dining in a different restaurant to Mr Maskey as in all the many times I have eaten at L'Eglise I have never been disappointed. The food is delicious (their steak tartare is one of the best I have eaten) and the service friendly and attentive. I'd rate this restaurant as one of the best in the city. Congratulations to Jean Christophe and his team for giving me a taste of France in Hove!

Dreadful. I had read some good reviews so we decided to try this on Saturday 12th September. Perhaps they cook in a style unknown to me but usually I expect there to be some flavour in the food.

When the food eventually arrived, 45 minutes after the starters the fish of the day was as above while the terragon chicken had been reheated several times leaving the 'sauce' with the consistency of paste and the same flavour.

Great restaurant. We went on a Saturday night without reservation. A table was not available straight away so we had a drink at nearby pub that was recommended by the owners. They called soon after to let us know that the table was ready. The service was friendly and we didn't mind being called "darling" by the waiter (this is Brighton after all...). The food was expertly cooked and genuinely French.

We'll certainly will come here again!

I have eaten four times at L'Eglise now, and each time hope it will be better than it has been the previous time, but it never is. The owners and the service are fine - though I object to being called "darling" by the waiter today!

I think the food is cooked with total lack of imagination, I can better myself. On my first visit I asked for a soft omelette, something which you shouldn't even need to ask for in a French restuarant, and it was hard. I had the onglette steak once, which was tasty, but the lovely French fries were covered in rock salt. Today the roast lamb was boring, thick and a bit tough, and the vegetables all tasted the same.

I keep being disappointed with L'Eglise and won't be trying it again.

I have been to L'eglise twice now and have to say on both visits it was faultless. The proprietor is a genuinely nice buy, as are all the other staff. We have been so well looked after it is beyond belief.

Each visit we have been offered a free drink, the owner is happy to bring some exciting wines out of his cellar that are not always on the list if you ask him. Try the Lillet apperitif (don't be put off by the name!), its a wine based drink, which is from Bordeaux. Very good, comes in red and white.

Food is great, fabulous onglet steaks are worth a try if you are a big beef eater, so rich and full of taste. What can you say about the duck fat chips, sinful but worth it. Each night has a different dish of the day which is also interesting.

Give this restaurant a try you wont regret it. Going for a third time this saturday and will hopefully be in the court yard weather permitting!

The Graphic Foodie

The Graphic Foodie

Friday, June 10, 2011 - I was almost swayed by Navarin D'agneau, a slow braised lamb in white wine and tomato sauce but finally opted for the Coq Au Vin, 12.50. Chicken, wine, bacon, garlic and slow, slow cooking, the vegetables soaking up all of that beautiful sauce. This didn't disappoint and is really my kind of dish; hearty, comforting and filling. Mr. GF's fillet steak, chosen from the handful of specials was as beautiful as it was tasty...The friendly staff dot around attentively and looking around at the mixed bag of diners it is clear that this is a really good, no great, family run, neighborhood restaurant.
