An excellent dining out experience from entry to exit. Staff were welcoming, freindly, attentive and full of knowledge and suggestions. The ingredients were of outstanding quality, expertly prepared and very well presented. The ambience is spot on. Clean, tidy, quirky and different. No request to staff was too much to ask or treated with anything other than with a "can do" approach. Price was high, but only what you would expect for such quality in all respects. For something special, this is it!

Being a overworked & underpaid clerk i find it hard to keep up with my Girls constant requests for the finer things in life - but as a special treat opted to take her here for a blow out meal. Surprised to find they do a £10 2 course menu that is amazing value & meant that we supped champagne as well. Great quality fish with french beans & a really nice sauce. well worth the visit - will be back!

I stumbled across this place last week as we were off to watch a performace at the Dome and it turned out to be a real treat. We explained to the friendly waiter that we were off to the show so could we eat quickly and they very kindly served our food promptly and very tastily. We arrived at the show in time for a drink beforehand perfect -highly recommend if you are in that part of Brighton for a quick eat.

I found them to be overpriced, and good salesmen, but the scallops were bland and uninteresting and my lobster was only half cooked. There are better and less expensive fish/seafood restaurants in Brighton that are not as disappointing!

My Daughter and I were in Brighton for two days and stumbled upon R&F. We were not really taken with the place. It is different, the staff are very friendly and the food was excellent. When we arrived there were three other couples in the restaurant each sitting at different tables. Two women, side by side on the table in front looking out, two men sitting opposite each other on a different table, they spread out there papers so much no one could sit with them and a couple who were side by side on another table. My daughter and I were taken to the table at the back and chose to sit side by side looking out. A couple came in and were offered our table but asked for a seperate table and got it, the next couple came in and sat on our table but decided to sit opposite each other then changed their minds and sat next to us, the marble top table slabs are long and four people can sit on one side very comfortably without feeling on top of each other. The only problem I had was when the next couple came in and were placed opposite us even though there was plenty of room on other tables, they were not happy but did not speak up.
I have to say I found their continual canoodling off putting at lunch time with my daughter but they were pleasant enough and he looked uncomfortable about it and so it evenyually stopped. Staff need to read their customers needs a little better but other than that it was great and I will be going back.

Having always been huge fans of R&F (please see review dated 30th Jan 2009) we were really dissapointed with the seating policy we experienced on our last visit. I agree with the comment below - it doesn't work! Even Wagamama get it right. You need to sit opposite your partner in order to speak comfortably and share the beautiful food.
The house policy of sharing tables was was explained to us as we arrived. No problem - however, I have to add at this point that there were empty tables available. We were shown to a very full table with only two seats left, slap bang next to each other, and the diners on that table didn't look to enamoured by the prospect of yet more dining guests!!
The other tables weren't booked (I know R&F have a no-booking philosophy) so we asked for a better table.
We were offered the bench at the back of the restaurant where we both faced the white tiled wall, Not the environment we anticipated, bearing in mind the cost.
I fear that we've been so enamoured by this restaurant because we've always been a party big enough to warrant our own table. Sort it out R&F (I trust you read these reviews....?). We left, and sadly took our hungry bellies (and wallet) elsewhere, and missed out on an amazing lunch that we'd both looked forward to..
The moral of the story is - just let people sit opposite each other! I don't want to sit next to my dining partner like a five year old in the school canteen. x

I'd heard good things about this place but was prepared to be disappointed - so much hype about everywhere these days - but what a wonderful Sunday afternoon !! The service and food really are first class. The staff know what they are talking about and are friendly and obviously happy - a breath of fresh sea air from the usual prentious and miserable london table staff.
A dozen fabulous oysters - could have had a dozen more. Perfect crab and a couple of mid market bottles of fizz. Ok its not cheap but it is a great way place to spend a couple of lazy hours and we definitely felt we had value for money.
Good show

There are two sides of this restaurant:
GOOD: its ok looking interior-interesting and different i would say;toilets has a pleasent fragrance smell but its just one for F and M;the french man: he tried his best.......good location-just between shopping area.
BAD: Menu is too big- i wonder how can they keep "daily" fresh fish, must be very very very busy;i had a mussels-perfectly cooked but mariniere far away from "that way it should be "as G Ramsay says!!! as a main course i had a crab salad -i recieve this huge crab, preboiled in the MORNING,straight from the fridge into my plate( dinner at 6pm),crab was looking very messy and tastless. Also we had a lovely company of two little flyes-God knows where they were coming from?..Also my martini been served in NOT martini glass and absolutly without nothing...not even little olive..(( didn't enjoy my drink at all!
Thats my opinion but my husband -which is professional chef in one of the WEST END - Londons restaurant. He sad its a big shame to have a opportunity to get FRESH fish and waist it.i knew it ,we should go for a FISH and Chips.OO yep i forgot to say-Its not a cheap experince!!

I would not recommend this place to anyone.
You can't sit face to face with the person you are eating with. If you try to, you get a pushy waiter forcing you to move across the table to squeeze you in between strangers and the person you are with, even if the other side of the table is completely empty...
The decoration is bad, the ceiling and dirty looking floor are unpleasant, and chairs are cheap and uncomfortable.
Watch out for your wallet, this is a money trap. The food is overpriced. The portions are very small, so you need to order sides for something like £3.50, £4, on the top of meals that cost £18.50, £20. The house has a mandatory cover charge, the service charge is higher than everywhere else in Brighton - 12.50%, instead of a fair 10%, the service is not up to standard, very slow ( I had to stand up and walk to the cashier to get the bill), and if you don't like it, make sure you put the exact money down + the tip they deserve (if they deserve any), otherwise the waitresses will make sure you will never get your change back. If you pay by card, for Mastercard holders, they have those ancient things where they put your card on it, slide the top part to the left to get a carbon copy and you sign it.
Ah, forgot to mention I saw a customer leaving the place quite mad while I was paying the bill at the cashier. Oh dear, I guess I’m not the only one with strong dislike for the place...
If you would like to have a very generous portion of well prepared wide variety of super fresh sea food, a relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, sea view, option of outside tables for pleasant sunny days where you can sit on any side of it you prefer, all of this for half the price you would spend going to this pretentious rip-off, go to the Regency Restaurant on the seafront.

Visited today for the second time, what a disappointment. Fish was over cooked and the staff were rude. Had a lovely time here over a year ago! Is it just me or does a cover charge plus a 12.5% leave everyone feeling slightly angry?? Certainly won't be going back.....
