Cromwells @ Golding Barn
your comments review this restaurant
This is the letter I sent to Cromwells after my daughters wedding. It says it all.
I had to write to you today to say a big thank you for such a splendid day yesterday. The tables looked amazing, the food was gorgeous and your staff were faultless. Everybody told me how lovely it was and I think many will be coming back to you to sample more.
Please tell your girls what a good job they did and how much it was appreciated and your chef deserves a big pat on the back too.
My daughter Maia was thrilled with the day and my mother who is not known to give praise said it was the best wedding she had ever been too. So well done and thank you once again for making such an important day run so smoothly and become a wonderful memory for everyone there.

Our experience was not what others have had: measly portions, badly cooked (burnt, under-cooked, we had it all) poor service, very expensive, and a thoroughly unpleasant conversation with the little man in frayed jeans when we expressed our disappointment. Our table was an old kitchen table that had once been painted, and the top was sticky. Shabby chic it was not. One of the worst dining experiences ever. Never again.

There is nothing about this restaurant anyone can complain about. The decor is country chic, and the manager, staff and service was the best I have ever experienced. The old fashion service is hard to find but not here. The food is excellent with traditional and new home made dishes which are presented so well. The grounds are very pretty and with the most beautiful views. The manager was very friendly and helpful. A must go to visit restaurant, very different from the standard restaurant. I have now been for breakfast, lunch and dinner in summer and winter, and no matter what the meal or what the weather they cater so well for everyone at anytime. The entrance to the restuarant had a very quant seating area that makes you feel part of the atmosphere and comfortable. And the swimming pool area in the summer gives you that trendy and summer feeling.

The restaurant is really very beautiful so I'm not sure what the previous reviewer meant by commenting on the outside. The outside is exqusite! Drinks on the deck by the pool, views over the downs as the sun sets, enclosed pretty garden, beams and shabby chic intreiors. By the way the food is delicious!
Go for a breakfast meeting (well brunch) and have the pancakes with either caramelised bananas or bacon....seriously good. The garden is child proof, so you are welcome to have littles there too. It's lovely for a coffee morning. I have had a Birthday party there, and the manager helped me to choose a menu for my guests. We had such a good time that I'm going back this year.
Reccomended food....Lamb yummy, pork dishes good too. Excellent fish.

Very good food, staff are well trained and on the ball! Setting is good do not be put off by outside as you arrive, it gets better as you enter. Nice views over the south downs.
