10 of us went to sushi garden on Saturday night for a friends Birthday. The restaurant was quiet but we made our own atmosphere - depsite being behind a curtained off area the staff didnt forget about us and were always on hand to fill up drinks. The menu is hilarious - love the descriptions! The food came out very staggered - those who ordered Bento boxes got them at the same time but those who ordered random things from the menu were often left waiting a while...not that this mattered to us as the sake filled the gaps...

The food was delicious - the veg tempura the best I have eaten and the sashimi generously portioned. One friend who had never eaten sushi before really enjoyed it :)

I visited this restaurant today with my boyfriend because I had a craving for tempura. The tempura was far from the best I've had and arrived with no dipping sauce initially. The waiter brought a dipping sauce when I asked for one, which did add to the flavour, but the vegetables used were not very tasty and the portion was very small. We also ordered yakatori chicken. Again, the portion was very small. We ordered diet coke to drink and it was very watered down.

Our bill came to over £15 for what amounted to canapes really. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you aren't hungry and have money to burn.

Paid a visit to this restaurant for the first time, and was very impressed. We were both feeling very indecisive so asked for recommendations, and were delighted with the results.

Food came promptly and beautifully presented, definitely the best sushi I have eaten in Brighton.

Its a shame it was so quiet, for a well priced menu and relaxed atmosphere it should have been packed.

the waitress was friendly and helpful, and the chefs were in view, the whole vibe was very open.

very enjoyable, will be going again!

Visited this restaurant with my partner and a friend who was visiting from Kyoto. I was looking for something so we could compare the restaurants in Japan. The only one I could find that sounded close was Sushi Garden.

Anyway, the overall opinion was that she liked the restaurant and the food. She felt the food was westernised (as one would expect) but she's been to similar places in Kyoto and Tokyo. She also commented that its, by far, not the best Japanese restaurant she's been to (again, as you would expect) but overall, she liked it and said it was a good reflection of various types of Japanese food (and some of the Saki brands here are also popular in Japan).

From my point of view - the service was prompt, food was nice (sushi octopus tentacle in interesting) and Sake very nice ( warmed).

the top reviewer obviously cant read as it's stated on the menu that it's crab stick: if you don't like you don't order it!

this is simply the best japanese resturant in brighton, with REAL japanese people cooking (not like in other places) and you can see why it's so good.

the place might be more down to earth than other resturants , but to me it's what is on the plate that matters, not fashionable interiors.

go there you won't be disappointed.

Similar comment to below. . . dont order the crab meat, they use crab stick, (thats what the flavour was) YUK!! I ordered a Manchester, should have guessed by the name really! Basically it was a crab stick covered in rice with a layer of seaweed and covered in thousand island dressing and put under the grill just long enough to cook the prawns on top but not long enough to warm the insides which were still cold. . . very strange and I guess it is not an authentic dish and has been added to the menu to cater for the northern day trippers! My dish arrived about 10 minutes after my friends so we ate seperately. Not as good as a previous visit and if we go again I will stick with the ramen!!

I went today for lunch with my sister to try something new. The food was delicious and the ladies working there were lovely ( i loved the japanese style kimonos). I would definitely go again and would recommend it highly.

went for my birthday and it was great - cheap (£10.50 for a filling selection of different dishes) great deco, service and atmosphere. Get yourselves down. They even game me some ice cream for free due with a candle in it. Lovely job.

Kampai!
