Extremely let down by this place. Cold mash, cold tinned peas, luke warm pie and gravy. Come on guys its cold outside-heat it up at least!!!!! Also not cheap for the quality of the food.

Fantastic place. I have just moved to Brigton from the East End and this easily beats the old fassioned pie shops there. Great variety of pies, great service and its not expensive. It is going to be a regular haunt for me

I went here after some friends had recommended it. I was extremely disappointed, I asked for steak port and stilton and ended up with I think steak and leeks. The pastry was uncooked, the filling uninspiring and the mash tasteless. My friends were from the north and were really excited by the concept nothing in their area and were considering opening something similiar. I will certainly be telling them they need to purchase pies of a better quality

Dreadful !! Had lamb pie with mash & mushy peas. The meat was sinewy, the pastry was like a chunk of leather. The mashed potatoes were lumpy, tasteless and the meal was not hot enough. I live in Brighton and eat out several times a week - this was the worst meal I have had in the last year.

Had moroccan aubergine and feta pie which was absolutely fantastic but was let down by the rather bland and thin mash.
Sure I'll be back to try other pies.

This place is exactly what you need to cheer you up on a rainy january afternoon. Good old fashioned comfort food with a modern twist. The Pokeno Pie people have turned a pretty basic dish into a gourmet treat. This is a lovely, cosy and modern cafe and the service is warm and inviting. Thumbs up to Pokeno... I'll definately be back!

Pretty disapointed as after reading the reviews was expecting some great pies. Thought the filling in my beef pie was pretty average, but the biggest dispointment was the mash - just no flavour.
Maybe I cuaght it on an off day

First time I had a high quality pies! i had a fantastic veg one while my partner said the minted lamb was just amazing.
Youc an have it with mash and gravy or with salad for a lighter option. Excellent organic fruit juice and a good white chenin blanc (I have not tried the others..). Nice atmosphere.

I'm really upset to say it but it was a bit dissapointing. We had the steak pies which were quite bland and not quite the tasty feast we were expecting. The pastry was great but the filling not quite so.
I was full at the end from the huge mound of mash and mushy peas which were good - but not the vegetarian gravy.
The beers were nice and cold though and the service was friendly and the interior design cool - but the pies didn't live up to the hype.

My partner and I had a fantastic time here the other night. Brilliant, cheap food obviously made with a bit of love and the best service we have experienced in quite some time, (you know how Brighton can be... the waiting staff here actually seem to be enjoying themselves!!)
Nice to see some independents are open in the evenings in this part of town too. We’ll definitely be back!
Oh, and I agree – best coffee I’ve had in Brighton. Maybe this town is finally waking up to itself!!
