I recently visited this place and found it really charming. The fish was fantastic and everybody seemed like they were having a great time. Service was friendly and the order was accurate and prompt. I suggest everybody visit this place and say hello to the owner, Alan.

Ruby Tate's is awful. Overpriced - rude staff and manager. Terrible food. I would never go back.

We booked Ruby Tates because of it's reputation as a great seafood eatery, and because it was at the pricier end of the market and we were treating ourselves. Unfortunately we were more than a little disappointed, the food, was late. Up to 2 hours before our starters arrived and they were pretty average. Then our mains failed to show after another hour and the staff were rude and confrontational. I think they had forgotten our order, but handled it with complete lack of professionalism. Really wouldn't recommend it unless you're going for something cheap and quick like cod and chips.

I cannot word it better than the many good reviews below, this place is excellent!

I agree with so many of the comments, such as the food was top notch and reasonably priced, the service was good and ambiance relaxed. Its promotion could be better, it deserves to be full. (Although this allowed us to get a table on a Friday night without a booking). The service was amazing, the very welcoming owner/manager behind the bar was unpretentious and quick witted. The waiters also were very friendly and polite.

So, some very small negative points; the courses did come out slightly faster than I would have liked, except for the desert which the waiter forgot to inform us until later that our choice would take longer than the others, and one waiter’s over keenness to overfill our wine glasses.

We will definitely go back and take ‘fussy friends’; if not just to have Fruits De Mar that we saw other customers enjoy, and we wished that we had stayed later to sit at the bar and chat to the owner.

We visited recently on a saturday night after reading the fantastic reviews. I'm glad to say it lived up to expectations and was certainly an extremely nice, fresh meal. Service was faultless and the owner's welcome was indeed very welcoming. The restaurant was only about a third full - perhaps they should do some promoting of the place with free tasters along the seafront or something!

My only gripe would be that there was only 3 choices of dessert and they had run out of the creme brulee (we were eating early and restaurant was only 1/3 full!) For a top restaurant they need a few more dessert choices. Also the tiger prawn starter was tiny and nothing special (£7 eek!) but the scallops were delicious. I would definitely go back.

We visited with friends recently. Friendly service, excellent seafood. We are lucky to live by the sea here in Brighton and Hove and it is a pleasure to find somewhere that does seafood so well. Well worth a visit!

After reading so many great reviews of Ruby Tates and being big seafood fans we couldn't wait to go on Friday night, however we were very dissappointed with the service. The owner is indeed very welcoming on arrival which was lovely, but after our starters we had to wait just over an hour for our main course. We then never received our side orders to accompany our seafood platter and we were overlooked by the waiter who's attention we were trying to attract during our main course. The food we received was of good quality but overall we found the experience to be a big let-down.

Well what can I say....My husband & I visited Ruby Tates for the first time this week end & the welcome we recieved on entering the restuarant was soooooo friendly, warm & very welcoming. The champagne was excellent, the service was first class & the food was out of this world. The whole place had such a nice feeling about it, it was a pleasure to be there & we will most definitley be going back. Well done to Alan & all his staff.

Had a beautiful evening meal in Ruby Tates. The oysters were delicious, and the champagne measures were very generous. A very tasty menu for fish fans, and non-fish fans! Can't wait to go back

I completely agree with the reviewer Chris.

I also hope that Brighton gets behind this place. We went on a Tuesday night and there was only one other table occupied, yet The Saint, a few doors away, was jammed. RTs is not cheap, but the food is brilliant and the staff are too. 10 out of 10.
