We took our daughter to Murasaki for her birthday as she loves sushi. The restaurant was buzzing, but not overly crowded. Lovely atmosphere with a nice mix of other families too. My daughter ordered the sushi platter for £10 which she rated quite highly.

We preferred choosing 'a la carte' and had a fairly passable tobiko and himachi sushi. We followed this with Daikon and seaweed salad, which was fresh tasting although I found they'd overdone the wasabi. My daughter had yakitori and more sushi, both of which she loved. I ordered Chicken Naben (garlicky chicken with griddled aubergine) but didn't realise that it was deep fried. My friend joked that it was very similar to KFC! Steer clear (of both). He ordered the special which was mackerel - gorgeous. We shared an exquisite green tea ice cream, which had the strange addition of a cornflake base.

I would go there again, but the absolute downside is the service. The waiting staff were charming but a bit ditzy and very slow.

I have eaten at Murasaki- both the take away and the restaurant, and I totally disagree! The food is amazing! The staff are really friendly and always deliver a high standard. I have been to many of the other Japanese restaurants around Brighton and I rate this one as one of the best! I reckon the person who had a bad service, was very unlucky. I am a regular at Murasaki and have nothing but good things to say!

We ordered a takeaway from Murasaki. They said it would take 45-60 minutes. They came 90 minutes later, but gave us a bag with only half of the food we ordered. And it was cold. Some time later, having spent a nice Friday evening on the phone trying to call in again, they send us the sushi we ordered.

Strange sushi. Never seen anything like it. Cheap, bad smelling, with far too much ginger. Felt like amateurish production, something that is a crime when the art of sushi making is at stake.

Not recommended for takaways at least. Perhaps better in house?

Having lived in Japan for many years i can honestly say that Murasaki is a home from home. The food is fresh and authentic, great range of wines and Japanese drinks and we just always have a lovely time. The atmosphere is homely and relaxed. Can strongly recommend!!

I have been to Japan and had proper Japanese food. Both cheap and high-end food. The food in Murasaki is nowhere close to the Japanese food I had in Japan.

The food I was served was too salty, too oily and tasted like a cheap microwave meal I can buy for a couple of pounds at a convenience store.

The service was not there either, I felt mostly ignored when I tried to get my Waitress attention.

I will not come back there and I recommend buying microwave food instead of going there as it is cheaper and quite frankly tastier.

Very average restaurant, uninspiring menu, and food very bland. Overall not a good expercience and wont be going back. Sushi Garden is much much better ! Waitress not interested in anything apart from her phone.

Have lived in Japan and been with my Japanese wife to Murasaki on several occasions. We go there because in our opinion its the best Japanese restautant in the Brighton area. Many Japanese people we know go there for that reason. As for Michael"s comments, was he just unlucky or was there something more to his negativity than his experience there?

Murasaki is by far the best quality japanese in brighton. It has truly exquisite food i i have been to japanese restaurants all over the world and Murasaki is right up there. The service is also good and the atmosphere is also nice however the music is cheesy.

I have eaten at Murasaki about 10 times now and loved it every time - the food and atmosphere are great and feel really authentic in an understated way.
