Shockingly poor service. I honestly believe that the waitresses are the catalyst at Sahara Restaurant. They spent most of their time chatting away to each other, disappearing for long periods of time, order mix-ups (even though they wrote down the orders) and having an 'Am I bothered' attitude.
The food was not bad but there was far too much on a plate, to a point of over flowing. They say less is more.
I actually liked the decor & music. I guess the best part of dining there for me was the fact that we could bring our own drinks
I wouldnt be rushing back any time soon though. Pity, as it has a lot of potential.

Food was very good, but the service and the waitress were terrible.
The waitress was not interested in anything. She was moody and stroppy the whole night. No hint of the tiniest smile (even a fake one).
Very slow service, tables not cleared away after starters had finished and when the mains (finally) came, Even then they were still not taken away! The mains were arranged AROUND the dirty/empty starter plates (we did have about 4 or 5 starters).
Great food, average price, terrible service.

I have read some of the good reviews posted here for this restaurant and am staggered by what I read. On 28/08/08 my partner and I went to Sahara for an authentic cuisine treat we can ill afford and were hugely dissapointed. Ambience and food not authentic to us.
Huge drapes of fabric on the ceiling that surely are a fire risk and lighting so severe and unflattering and music from a bad sound system that was intrusive made the general ambience NAF. A typically D.I.Y atmosphere. We were also uncomfortably hot even though we were near the open door
Service was not good, a couple arrived 15 mins after us and got their meal before we had even got our drinks that I had to ask for twice and were not chilled. Service was not quick and attentive but slow and frankly surly.
Starter was inedible and we left most. My Algerian partner is very used to eating couscous and wanted to sample the couscous there but it was not freshly steamed as in the menu but gluey and stale, most was left, my meal a tagine was packed with far too many walnuts that made me gag. A disasterous meal and we left without desert as we could not wait to leave . We will never go back or recommend it to anyone.
This place is for tourists that know no better.

Absolutely disappointing, the persian waitress was very impolite and rude.
The portions of barg kebab (which is actually why one should go to a persian restaurant) were exactly half of the original size they should have been and other persian restaurants in Brighton have.
In total I would say go to Kambiz - better and cheaper.

My wife demanded meze so we ended up here, they were a bit overwhelmed and service was a bit slow but no problem, although I enjoyed the sight of the next table receiving a bottle of water, with the glasses finally following 20 minutes after.
The meze was very good, although the kebabs could've been better with the quality of meat leaving a lot to be desired. It was well cooked though and the rice was perfect.
BYO is a bonus, although wish I'd have known beforehand.

Authentic lebanese cuisine. The mezze was brilliant, the kebab succulent, service was good. All in all, was a worth coming all the way to Brighton for!

What a beautifuly atmospheric and ambient place. The waitresses were all charming, service was very good. The music was not too load. The food was delicious. A whole shank of lamb tagine with fruit and walnuts ...yum. My partner had persian lamb with lentils, very tastey. Dessert of baklava and arabic coffee was the perfect end to the meal. The BYO policy is just a bonus to it all.
Will definately be going back again.
