I have never been compelled to write a review of a restaurant online, but after our meal on Saturday I felt I should. This place is a gem and deserves to do really well for the simple things it does right. Firstly, as a wine taster by profession, I find the over charging on average wines on the lists of restaurants a major irritant as I am forced to drink mediocre wines at rip-off prices. Not so here, the Bring Your Own policy means that not only do I save money; I also get to drink exactly what I want.
We had a birthday meal for my girlfriend with 20 others. We had pre ordered from a menu and were offered 3 course for 19.80, which was excellent value. This was further highlighted when the food actually arrived. It was universally praised. Simple, unfussy dishes created by a chef who understands flavour and balance and clearly uses good quality ingredients. The kitchen did not put a foot wrong all evening.
The service was charming and friendly (despite the inherent problems of getting everybody served the right dish etc). We got merry; we ate lovely food and left with change in our pocket. This really is a charming place and I hope you give it a go, because you will not be disappointed. Great work Mangerie.

On Saturday eveing after failing to get into The Ginger Pig we walked round the corner to see where else had a table. We came across 'that restaurant opposite tesco that never seems open'. They had a table and we took it but first went across the road to stock up on wine for the evening, excellent already a saving of £20! We chose our food and waited to see what would be brought from the kitchen. Huge portions of excellent food were delivered and £20 for 3 delicious courses was well worth it. Plus the atmosphere was relaxed and we didnt feel we were being rushed at all, pleasant staff who coped with a packed house but managed to keep on top of everything. We have booked to go again in a couple of weeks and have recommended it to friends. . . SO that little place thats always steamed up or empty opposite Tesco saved our evening and will become one of our regulars for sure!

This is a small and friendly restaurant.
We had a lovely diner for less than £20.
Try it.

An unremarkable looking restaurant nearly opposite Tesco in Hove. Perhaps not the most encouraging opening comment! But go in! This is a very nice, totally unpretentious place where the cooking is of a very good standard. Portions are large. It is BYO, so remember to take your own! Pleasant and friendly service help the evening go with a swing.
