i went to this restaurant a few years back with some friends and the meal ruined our evening out. we ordered our starters and my friend order brushetta as a starter and ended up getting it with her main instead so had no starters. we decided to order fish and was told the fish was local when it came out it was tasteless and cold and the sauce was like water. I did start to get concerned after the starter because so many people were leaving their meals. I complained to the manager and all credit due we got a free meal but I would have rather paid and have a nice evening

I can't think of a worse restaurant in Brighton. The service is shocking and the food is just as bad. The staff couldn't understand what was wrong with my girlfriends pizza which was clearly burnt to a crisp (you couldn't even cut through it). I don't understand why but the restaurant owner seems to take great pleasure in shouting at his staff and making everyone in the restaurant feel generally uncomfortable. The whole experience was very bad, do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

This is simply the worst meal I have ever eaten in Brighton by some distance.
The place was empty when we arrived and we ordered two pizzas and a steak.
The steak had a bitter taste and smelt very odd. When we pointed this out to the the manager he told us it was because the steak was fresh. My pizza had a thick layer of sickly sweet sauce and was covered with ham, cheese and rocket and was complety disgusting. The last pizza was tackled with zeal but my friend but he could only manage to eat half before he became worried with the state of our food. I told the manager that the food was essentially poor and inedible and he only charged us for the drinks and service and we left.

Arriving without reservations on Saturday evening, we were ushered upstairs to an empty part of the restaurant which had all the atmosphere of the moon on a wet Monday night. In February.
All started off well enough with drinks arriving promptly but that's when it all started to go horribly wrong.
As other reservation-less diners started to fill our floor, we happy four placed our orders for various steak and pasta dishes. An hour passed and we patiently watched other diners either receive their meals, receive and return wrong orders or just walk out having got fed up of waiting. We ordered another couple of bottles of wine.
Later, I decided to follow some more angry diners walking out and ask where our meals were. I decided to speak to one particular waitress as she was seemingly the only one to have any concept of customer service. She apologised profusely, said she had no idea what was going on in the kitchen (going by reviews, this is clearly not the first time chaos has ensued so you'd have thought she would have found out by now) and said she'd "rush our order". I thanked her. I'm British, you know.
Ten increasingly hungry mins later, I collared another waitress as she passed our table, explained that we were still waiting after 80mins, to which she replied "It's not my fault". I then apologised as it was clearly mine.
More time passed and 'professional waitress' came up and issued us with some steak knives. She then apologised again and offered us another bottle of wine. I explained that if we drunk any more on empty stomachs, we would be out cold by the time our dinners arrived. But I accepted anyway. I'm British, you know.
Finally, 95mins after we placed our order and after most other diners had left, our food arrived! Hurrah! The food was awful! One pasta meal was reported as cold and tasteless, the other pasta was being slowly moved around its plate, while the two steaks were piping hot but also sadly, part rubber.
We were all quite sozzled by now and, despite the restaurants best efforts, having a lot of fun so we ate our 'food' as quickly as poss to get the hell out of there and into a decent venue (it ended up being The Sussex - nice pub!).
As we finished up, a cook (the food was not good enough to label him a chef), who was clearly very unhappy, went from table demanding "Is everything okay?!". If he'd hung around, he would have heard my reply of "No, not really" but he was off down the stairs before I'd opened my mouth. Well, at least he could honestly say there were no complaints from the diners.
I can say, without a shadow of doubt, that not one of my fellow diners will ever return to Opposition and I pray that bankruptcy comes promptly for this festering sore on Brighton's beautiful face.

This restaurant is bad!
From outside the place looks lovely and new. Inside is a different story, old and shabby.
We were seated behind the 'bar' area, next to the dish washer. My partner and I both had different menu's, which caused a lot of confusion over what was actually on the menu.
Service was very bad, when my partners pizza was served it was shoved on the table so quick is slipped off the plate.
Desserts were not fresh, all UHT cream. The whole episode reminded us of a carry on film.
Would not recommend it and won't be going back, but believe that trading standards should be made to have a visit.

Have you ever seen the restaurants on "Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares"?
Well, this restaurant is about ten times worse than anyone I've seen on the show. It is absolutely the worst restaurant I have ever been too.
The service was horrible, so was the food and the place simply seems poorly managed - for example the manager and waiter were at one point fighting very loudly in Italian so all the guests heard!
We were a group of four:
1. Our table was missing knives - when we asked for some the waiter grabbed steak knives from the next table - despite we ordered pasta, no meat!
2. We waited ages for our food even if the restaurant was almost empty.
3. When the food finally came, it tasted terrible and was poorly served. It looked like they took the food and shoved it in the microwave, it looked disgusting.
4. We returned a lasagna that one of us ordered, but it looked disgusting. When we asked if we could order pizza instead the response was that we had to wait 20 minutes because they had other orders to serve first. When we complained to the manager he just shrugged and said he had to listen to us whether we were wrong or right.... and that's that. No apology or any solution to the problem was offered.
To conclude this review the food and service was so bad it was like something out of a movie - we almost laughed at the whole situation. Do not go there if you enjoy good Italian food - it is beyond my understanding how it is possible to cook such bad food like Opposition does.

I've been visiting Brighton and went eating there with my partner yesterday and it was not thaaaaat bad really.
The food was OK, wine was good, decor kitschy (which I like and know it's not everyone's taste).
Two things were disturbing: Loud Whitney Houston music -terrible remixes of her 80's hits. Very unsuitable for a restaurant that wants to make a romantic impression.
The second disturbance was the staff. When we entered, there was no one to greet us, except the restaurant owner who was chewing his dinner at the front table and mumbled we should sit down whereever we want.
Then, for the rest of our stay, he argued with her and was rather loud. We thought this was very unprofessional.
We won't go back to this place when in Brighton again. Too many fabulous places (we are from London and think some eateries could learn from Brighton's)!

Do not go here, the service and food is dreadful. Call themselves a restaurant, greasy spoon would be better than this and more friendly. Couldn't get out quick enough.

To cut a long story short this place is appalling, do not go here the other good reviews I think were a "one off".
My very timid friend finally blew his lid and complained which is very out of character, the owner didn't take kindly to the feedback and then started to discount our bill to get rid of us. RUBBISH
