The King & I

We had a fabulous evening!
We saw a classic’s traditional Thai dance show while dining, combined with the unique cuisine of Thailand - All for less than £25 (per person).
The food was not excessively priced and If you love Thai food, this is the place to go. However, their 'cheapest' red wine (£13 a bottle) was a total disaster - it was flawed.
The service was excellent and we will definitely return!

I strongly warn everyone not to eat at this restaurant!
I have eaten at this restaurant several times in the past and always found the food nice but expensive for what you get.
How ever let me tell you about the last and final time I ate at the King and I.
I took my Dad and his new wife for a meal to celebrate their recent wedding.
The restaurant was over booked and we waited in the cold, drafty doorway for over 20 mins. After we were seated it took a further 15 mins to get our first drink, Then 1 hour to recieve our starters!!! we ordered our main course in the hope that service would improve.......oh how wrong we were!!
After 50 mins of waiting I spoke to the manager/host (very rude man with no customer service skills whats so ever) I politely explained how dissapointed we felt by the evenings service and to my horror he replied " This is how it will be all night, you can leave right now if you like?" It was now past 11pm and anyone who lives in Brighton knows you will not get a seat anywhere else this late in the day.
I was ready to leave then and there but my Dad persuaded me to stay. We were not given an apology or offered a complimtary drink or discount for the meal.
The attitude of the male host was appaling and totally unacceptable.
The Thai staff are lovely and work tirelessly to delivery fantastic service it's a shame that they have to work with the most arrogant man in Brighton!

From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were disappointed.
We booked in advance to be greeted at the door by a huge queue which left us out in the cold for 5 minutes while the waiting staff ignored us. This along with being ‘on display’ in the window seating was not ideal but could be ignored.
However when the waitress finally stopped ignoring us and took our order of wine, starters and mains for two we then endured an hour wait for our starters which consists of spring rolls which we didn’t even order! Our starters we ordered were no where to be seen. Half an hour later of the waitress passing us off we finally received our food – only problem was it was the main meals with my starter. My boyfriend never received his starter, or an apology!
Food was also all spice no flavour – covered in chilli seeds (doesn’t the chef clean the chilli before adding them?!?) and due to the starter and main coming at the same time my mains were stone cold by the time I had a the starter.
The bill then came in at £45 pounds and a lot of fussing as we asked for the starter that never showed and service charge to be taken off. To sum up – bad service and food. We will never go back.

Very dissappointing food.
For a Thai restaurant a good dipping sauce is not to much to expect.
Food was very bland.

What a disappointment! Went with friends in January and it was a fiasco from beginning to end. Deeply confused service. Main courses arrived before starters. Menu very dated. Food bland. Will not be going back.

When working in Brighton the last few years I have been once a week here. It is great food and the service has always been good. Maybe some posters were there on a bad night, which all restaurants have sometimes

went to this restaurant for birthday meal 14 of us service was good but food was a dissapointment , most peoples dishes only had three or four pieces of meat my beef dish tasted fresh out of a tin.
no tast to starters (WHICH WERE 30 POUND EACH)
mixed starter for four 4 spring rolls , 4 satay chicken , tofu things and prawn rolls. 4 of each not worth 30 pound.
we are all foodies and eat out regulary and this place just was such a disappointment. i would not recommend it for a nice thai meal there are better ones around.
we refused to pay the extra 10% .

My boyfriend and I have been visiting the King and I for the past 4 years or so. We hadn't had a chance to go in the last year so we thought we would have our 'house purchase' celebration meal there the weekend just gone. We have returned time and time again as the food is always excellent and the service impecible. Obviously this restaurant must be under new management. This is the only reason I can come up with to justify the fact we were basically kicked out of our seats. The begining of the meal was fine, attentive service and good food. My main course was a little greasy, but nothing that bothered me too much. Once our mains had been finished and the plates taken away we waited 20 minutes for any other service, despite our attempts to ask for the dessert menu at regular intervals. Once the menu had been brought over we were told that three of them were not available (There about 7 on the menu) which left a choce of ice-cream or two types of fried banana- not good for a saturday night. just as we had ordered coffees and a dessert (luckily we quite like fried banana), someone who I assume was the manager came over to tell us the table was booked and a couple had been waiting for 20 minutes already. I politely told him we had just ordered coffees so he left us alone. Our coffees arrived and no sooner than they were on the table our bill was flung at us (We had not asked for it). Very shortly after that the manager came back with the credit card machine, we had not stated how we would like to pay, I politly asked him to come back when we had sorted the bill between ourselves first. When he came for the money he says 'here, I give you a present', at which point he gave us a postcard. We thought maybe he had recognised we were not happy and we were being rushed off our table and was giving us some money off our next meal, but no- it was very blank. Had we been told at the begining of the meal that the table was booked again in the evening we would have been less displeased as we would have been given a choice to stay and eat up quickly, or go elsewhere as we were not wanting a quick 40 minute meal. I am very saddened by the fact that this was once our favourite restaurant, but I can only assume it is now under new mangement which has let it down greatly. We wil not be returning and judging by other reviews, neither will a lot of people.

I first visited the King & I back in August and I was taken in right from the start. The dress of the staff was amazing, the atmosphere was romantic, everything was just how it should be. When the food arrived again, I found I couldn't take my eyes off it. Even the crockery was beautiful. Obviously the food was fastastic and a great night was had by all. I have booked for Valentines Night as my boyfriend has yet to go to The King & I. I would recommend it to people who like things done a little differently.
