Fantanstic food, great value for money, first class service. We had a fabulous night out and cant praise the King & I enough. We'll certainly be back and would have no hesitation in recommending the restaraunt to friends.

The king & I is easy the best Thai in town. I have spent over 3 years living in Thailand, and this restaurant is like a little slice of Thailand. Smiles all round, authentic Bangkok style food. It may not suit everybodys idea of service (fine dining) But I reckon the service is perfect just the way it is. wholeheartedly recommended.

The King & I is a very sweet little restaurant that I would thoroughly recommend. The dishes are good and reasonably enough priced, and the service is a little unproffessional but the staff are attentive enough and eager to please. My sister insists on going there everytime she visits brighton.

Went there with friends, as a start, we complainted about dirty and greasy plates, the food was very spicy, the vegetables were not cooked, even a fork couldn't take a brocoli, the fish was half-cooked and tasteless.
Don't forget to pay the Optional Service Charge otherwise you'll be reminded that the change is wrong.
If you like raw veg, half-cooked fish, raw potatoes in soup and 10% service charge (even optional), i can't stop you.
Never going back again. The previous owner was more agreable. It's a shame.

This was previously my favourite Thai restaurant in Brighton, but my last visit was a disastor: Dirty plates, poor service and very disapointed dishes. Some effort was made by the manager to change the plates, wine and one dish, but generally we felt disapointed. After declinging to pay the 'optional' service charge, we were abused by the manager who shouted at us as we left. Has this place changed ownership recently??

Just went tonight, it was so disappointing.
First, my friend and I had dirty plates.
We wanted to order Monsoon White Wine for a try but they ran out. We took the Monsoon Rosé. Tasteless, the wine let a bad feeling on the tongue but wasn't the restaurant fault. We changed for an Australian white wine and guess what happened the boss came with the Monsoon White Wine. We stuck with the Australian one. The boss was trying his best.
About the food, the starters were good.
One food was too spicy and the boss decided to exchange for a non spicy one.
It was a good gesture until one of my friend ate a chilli pepper seed.
Then came the main course. All the sauce were delicious but most of food were not cooked unless you like crunchy veg, half raw fish, hard potatoes. We couldn't say all the thing anytime he asked us if everthing was fine. We could guess that we weren't happy.
As the service was optional, we decided to pay only the food. Hence, we were told the change was wrong, the optional service charge was missing. By shouting, the food was delicious, according to him. We were told we were not gentlement and not to come back.
BTW, the costume were not so thai style and waitress didn't speak very well English. The boss wasn't thai.

The Worst Thai Restaurant Met
Thursday, August 17, 2006
I went with my wife and my parents last Monday (31 July 2006) after recommendations from a couple of people. The restaurant looks nice, and the waitresses smartly dressed in Thai outfits.
We then waited for nearly an hour for our main courses, despite a couple of reminders to the staff. Anyway, the food was OK / good, if a little tight on the portions.
We then got the bill which included a 10% tip already added on.
We paid up accordingly, however did not leave the full 10% tip. This is where things turned ugly.
My father went to the little bar area just to mention about the slow service, hence the reduction in tip. He asked the chap who looked like he was in charge if he was the manager. His reply (and I am not kidding) was 'I could be'. There then proceeded to be a battle where he would not admit if he was / wasn't the manager, and basically said 'I am not speaking to you, goodbye.'
Never in all my life have I encountered such rudeness, and I promise you all that we did nothing to antagonise the issue.
I would never eat in this place again. I do not expect to be treated like dirt in a place where we are the customers.
