La Florentina
your comments review this restaurant
My wife and I have been going to La Florentina for around the last 20 to 21 years. Pretty well since the present owners took over. If you are looking for pasta, as the previous reveiwer stated, go to The Lanes. However, if you want some very well cooked, good quality food, at very reasonable prices (with side vegetables included in the price by the way), this is one of the best places to places to eat in Brighton. It may looke quaint and dated, like a 1960's / 70's bistro, but the food is well worth it.
The owners don't advertise, they rely on regular customers and word of mouth. What better advert could there be?

Having just read the review below I strongly disagreee with every word that has been wriiten. My Husband & I have been going to this restaurant for 8 years the food is excellant the service I cannot fault ..
I would also like to add that The La Florentina does not state it is Italian the owners whom we know very well are in fact Portugese. So may I suggest if you want Italian you go down into the lanes

I have been living by norfolk square for 2 years now and always passed by this little restaurant. last weekend my gf and I decided to find out how it was.
I have to say, it was the most disapointing experience I had in long time... maybe because I was hoping to find a good and traditional italian restaurant.
For starter we had the liver pate on toast which appeared to be some cheap pate creme on really cheap and bland white bread. The pate was tasteless!
For main we both wanted some good pasta. We were first disapointed to find that in this supposedly "italian" restaurant there were only 4 or 5 different choices of pasta and none of them were inspiring.
My gf had the salmon pasta which revealed to be some cooked smoked salmon bits with creme fraiche. WHY would you cook SMOKED salmon? maybe because it was not fresh anymore? It was the most horrible pasta I had in my entire life! seriously!
I had the canneloni de la casa which was just a big canneloni with mince meat (I couldn't tell which meat) and spinach, the whole bathing in tomato and cheese cream sauce.
I have been a few times to italy and as far as I remember none of these were even suggesting a little influence of real italian cuisine!
I also had a look at the rest of the menu. There is NO way they can pretend to be an italian restaurant. steak and chips, fish, salad etc... this is NOT italian cuisine, this is just normal cuisine!

My husband and I went to La Florentina on a rainy evening in November only to be confronted with the quaintest little eaterie we had ever come across. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was absolutely delicious. We both agreed that we had the best mussels we have ever tasted! As you can probably gather, we have been back many times since.

Visiting Brighton with my wife on what was a miserable summer evening our meal at La Florentina more than made up for the weather.
Many larger establishments could take a leaf out of their book, one man out front and it appeared just one person in the kitchen yet the atmosphere and service was just right.
Our meals were well prepared and it seemed that many customers were regulars, always a good sign.
